Everybody remembers Crysis 2 not so much for how pretty it was to ogle, but because it eschewed an otherwise concrete open-world formula in favour of a somewhat more linear design approach.

There is a reason why our Crysis 3 review is a touch late: we weren't happy putting pen to paper before we had set eyes on the PC version of the game. It took a little longer, but we've finally had the game ticking along on our rig for a few days now.

I can't help but think that most of the development for Crysis 3 went into the technology rather than story and game design. Crytek has a breathtaking engine on their hands, and I look forward to seeing what they or anyone who licenses it can do in the future, but for now Crysis 3, while spectacular...

This game is beautiful and the audio is top-notch. There's no doubts about that. Great story that has an ending that fans of the series, me included, will love. The gunplay is typical of a Crysis game, but has some changes and additions that are welcome.

different playstyle than used to

I can't even say that installing it to the Xbox helps as I had the game installed since the beginning. Overall it's worth a rental to play the single player but the downsides for the game outweigh the pros. It is fun and maybe after some updates it will help the game fix a lot of its problems.

A thing of beauty is a joy forever, or so John Keats said. In some cases, I would heartily agree, but Crysis 3 proves one thing for sure; this is not an absolute.
