Crucial M500 480GB review
Crucial's latest range of SSDs, replacing the highly successful M4 series , is here. The Crucial M500 family consists of four capacities: 120GB, 240GB, 480GB and the flagship 960GB.

Crucial M500 960GB
We've said for quite some time that the biggest performance increase you'll see in a system upgrade these days it moving to a Solid State Drive. The improvements of an SSD, in our opinion, are nothing short of astounding.
Pros:
- Sleek design
- Excellent incompressible data results
- Great value
- Massive storage capacity
Cons:
- Not the fastest on the market

1st SSD - happy!
Upgrade for my 2008 MacBook Pro which had mechanical hdd. Very happy with the performance gain. I've read quite a bit about these drives and the 120GB and 240GB are said to have poor write speeds compared to peers. I don't need great writes for my Mac so price was my driver.

When asked at CES about the M500 price points, we were told the 960GB model would hit the $600 price point and the other capacity would scale from there. Although not specifically stated, I took that to mean $300 for the 480GB, $150 for the 240GB and around $75 for the 120GB.

SSD
Great drive with lots of speed. Hope it lasts and doesnt crap out after a year or so. Downgraded it because it didnt include an adapter for a 3.5 slot.
Pros:
- Great drive
- Gave me the extra speed I needed for the computer I use as a small business server
Cons:
- said comes with a adapter but I had to order one that would work in a 3.5 slot

Installed with only slight difficulty
I went through a few iterations to install the drive. It was not possible to create a mirror image of the original using a USB external drive box because of format restrictions. I installed the SSD drive in the computer, and with a free program called "Macrium Reflect" the cloning worked like a...

Bought two more after the first...
Recently purchased three BRIX and NUC systems requiring MSATA drives. Liked the first Crucial M500 as boot disk, so bought two more for the other systems. Great price/performance ratio. No issues.
Pros:
- Easy To Install
- Fast
- Highly Compatible
- Quiet
- Reliable

Lightning fast and dependable
Fast, lightweight, the 480gb version seems to hit the sweet spot between price and capacity. I use mine as a portable drive (without a case) which I plug into a SIIG mini-doc. (I do had a case for transport to protect the drive in my briefcase).
Pros:
- Fast
- Highly Compatible
- Quiet
Cons:
- Expensive

One of the best things I have bought for a PC ever.
I've been using this for a while now and can safely say I would not go back to a normal HDD as a boot disc. Booting up my machine is now fast enough I no longer put off reboots. I use this as my main drive and keep media files on a secondary drive where speed is less important and it has made more...
