All in all I'm very pleased with this drive. The price was unbeatable for this capacity - under 50 cents per GB! Functionally, it may be somewhat slower in some types of writes and reads but you've be very hard to notice it in actual usage.
Pros:
- Great Value
- Huge capacity
- Reliable
- MLC NAND not TLC for longer life
- 7mm case fits everywhere
Cons:
- Very high density NAND is a little slower in some tests, Couple of reallocated sectors since day one
- Common for M5 drives apparently, Had to Power Cycle laptop a few times because BIOS couldn't find the drive sometimes
- Has been solid since this was done.

All in all, it's a great little SSD. Worth every penny.
Let me introduce myself. I am a huge computer nerd. I have been dismantling computers from the age of 16, back when I got my first AMD K6 PC. After a week my Windows 98SE packed in, and because I had no money to pay a professional to fix it, I did the unthinkable and started tinkering with it...

Killer add-on for newer ultrabooks
Incredible performance. I plugged this into my Ultrabook which now just flies along on Windows 8. The transfer speeds are incredible and the laptop boots up in under 10 seconds.

and now starting windows and opening programs is a whole lot better. highly recommended
Fast and reliable SSD, as most Curcial products are. It might not be the fastest one around but works perfectly to replace a regular HDD on and laptop/desktop, and now starting windows and opening programs is a whole lot better. highly recommended.

Crucial M500 480GB SSD Review
The drive itself comes in a shiny 7mm silver enclosure, so you can jam it into an Ultrabook. A 9.5mm spacer is also included, but there is no 3.5-inch adapter in the box, nor is there any software in the box or online aside from a firmware updating tool, which is disappointing.
Pros:
- Fastest drive in its class by a hair
- great value
Cons:
- Bare-bones bundle
- 3 year warranty

Crucial M500 SSD review
Crucial has returned to the hit list of must-have SSDs with its M500. Not because it's the fastest but because it has great multi-platform PC support, a good balance of large- and small-file transfer speeds, and an attractive price without relying on slower performance three-layer cell (TLC) flash...
