Celestron Nexstar 8 SE

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by the mysteries of the universe, and captivated by the glimpse it presents of itself via the nighttime sky. For the most part, "naked eye" and binocular observation, have satisfied my visual cravings, but every so often I would wonder how much...

Defective product

I am very disappointed with this telescope. This is my second telescope, my first was a manual Dobsonian. I needed a new Telescope with a feature tracking the Earth rotation and the Nexstar 8SE I got is defective.

Flimsy

I would change only one thing

This is a very good scope. Excellent value, fun to use. I would definitely recommend this. I suggest Celestron upgrade the finder scope.

Easy to setup, very portable; Nice clear images, easy to use

The supplied finder scope is too flimsy too be very useful

Great. Light. Easy to use. Magnification smaller than expected

Easy to use. Really clear picture. I live in the city and I still enjoy great images. Magnification: images on celstron.com are a bit misleading as you do not get Saturn or Jupiter to fill the frame and I have a 2x barlow, and a tele-extender...

Potent Scope on A Lightweight Computerized Mount [Update 07/07/2009]

The NexStar 8SE makes a larger telescope portable with computer guidance than any other package. It does a lot, works well, and is reasonably priced.

Potent telescope, light package is easy to move; Inexpensive for what you get

Limited field of view; Power hungry

The 8 SE is a compromise. The OTA works well enough, but dew is a constant headache. The mount can work well, although never on a consistent basis. Mount also appears to be overloaded with this OTA.I hung a weight opposite the OTA and vibration and noise were considerably lessened. It is certainly easy...

Software fail

My first big scope but I guess I bought the factory dog as the SkyAlign just consistently failed the first night. When I finally got a successful message and hit Tour it slewed in completely the wrong direction for Jupe and Saturn.

great product

As a newcommer to astronomy I did a lot of reading prior to purchasing the Nexstar 8SE. I am more than impressed with its capabilities and set up is a breeze. With the luxury of an almost unpolluted sky I was amazed at the clarity of Jupiter and its 4 nearby moons.

Wish it had auto align

To start I am a complete newb to astronomy. I did do some research online watched MANY you tube videos. Contemplated between the 6SE and the 8SE. After looking at the amount of light difference between the two went with the 8SE. The 25mm eyepiece is a decent eyepiece to start with.
