This thing blows away expensive pro cameras from a couple years back. The interface is a little clunky for sure, but it offers an incredible amount of control. I couldn't believe it has waveforms and focus peaking. Love that it's small and black, so it's not drawing any attention to itself.
I use 2 of these cameras for filming live bands. I must say that the low-light clarity and colour reproduction blows away my Panasonic TM700. Also, consider that I spent an additional $1000 the Panny to get the handle, extra memory, XLR ins, a wide angle lens for more light and a lens hood.
This is a fine camcorder in a very compact package, but a few nits: You have to open the LCD screen in order to access the headphone jack, so you can't operate in electronic viewfinder and headphone mode.
Easy to Use; Good Image Stabilization; Good in Low Light; Great Picture Quality
Very good camera. It really is a fully professional camera. It has everything you need to satisfy the most demanding videographer in a small package. One thing that most caught my attention was the XRL inputs and cinema mode.
Detachable handle; XLR audio inputs and mic mount; Small form
Lightweight body lends to increased camera shake
We use this camera for our church events, services and praise and worship. This is the most professional camera we have used to day. It is perfect for tripod use for services and during outside events running around.
Since all products are a compromise of some sort (price vs. size vs. weight vs. ruggedness vs ) the trick when buying a complex product is to determine if the designers made the right compromises, i.e. they gave up features that aren't very important to you and they preserved the features that are.
The canon xa10 is was a great surprise right out of the box. We put the battery on and "blam!" it fired right up and we started shooting. The audio is obviously limited but with external mic ports (xlr) and shotgun holster, sound is easy to get up to snuff.
Easy to Use; Great Picture Quality; Large Clear LCD
Poor Sound
It takes some getting use to. It does not shoot very wide so if you plan on shooting indoors you should get a wide angle lens.
