Canon PowerShot SX740 HS

The pocket-sized Canon Powershot SX740 HS is perfect for travellers, or anyone on the move, thanks to its compact, portable design and ability to capture truly great stills and video.

Perfectly portable

The Canon Powershot SX740 HS is not at all big or heavy. Just 110.1 mm high, 63.8 mm wide and 39.9 mm deep…and a tick under 300 grams including battery and memory card. Now that is portable!

Big on performance

Small in nature but big in the quality it delivers, this compact camera is all you need thanks to 40x optical zoom, superfast DIGIC processing and 4K resolution. Capture everything in 20.3MP detail without carrying a heavy and cumbersome camera to do it.

Point and shoot

Getting great shots is made easy with that DIGIC 8 processor. Think of it as your photographic adviser as it manages camera settings, including Zoom Framing Assist and Hybrid Auto, so you can achieve spectacular results even when you just point and shoot.

You won't miss a thing

All that quality is nothing if you don't capture the moment. Fortunately, the Canon Powershot SX740 HS has supremely responsive shutter release and 10 fps continuous shooting.

Super selfies

Leave the phone in your pocket and grab the perfect selfie with the snappy Self Portrait mode and a flip up LCD screen.

Easy to share

It's easy to take great photos, and just as easy to share them with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity and auto transfer. This makes it a piece of cake to share and back-up photos to compatible smart devices or your home PC.

Great features

I bought this camera as an update to my Canon SX700HS which has always been a great performer. The advantages of the SX740HS are the 40X zoom and the fold up screen which helps with taking selfies on holidays. The high resolution movies are really super on my TV. The ability to take time lapse looks great although I haven't tried it yet. My one and only gripe is that the menu doesn't provide for the ability to set the new time zone when you travel.

Canon SX740 HS review

The Canon PowerShot SX740 HS is an update to the SX730 HS from 2017. As upgrades go, it's on the conservative side, with Canon's newer DIGIC 8 processor now providing 4k video and 10fps continuous shooting, but everything else remaining pretty much the same as before.

Canon PowerShot SX740 HS

The SX740 HS makes some positive steps forward from the SX730 HS, and is capable of producing nice images and good-looking videos. It's a sound option for those who just want the camera to do all the work, although the absence of a viewfinder, touchscreen and raw shooting mode means it can't be said...

Huge; stabilized zoom lens; EOS-style user interface; Images show nice colors; 4K video reasonably detailed; Fast autofocus system; Good face detection AF

No EVF; Screen not touch-sensitive; Image quality compromised at longer focal lengths; Effects of noise reduction and over-sharpening are visible; No raw shooting; Limited image quality control

All the optical zoom you could want, in a camera that'll easily slip into your jeans pocket...

40x optical zoom; 4K video; Flip-forward screen; Easy to use

Image quality not brilliant; Can be sluggish to take a photo; No touchscreen or EVF; Can't shoot in Raw

Canon Powershot SX740HS Black SX740HS review

To have a compact piece of equipment that does not require any wires to transfer data and at the same time has unlimited features like time-lapse and 180-degree screen tilt is absolutely amazing for a beginner or a pro-level photographer.

A unique 3.0-inch Tilt-type LCD; Comes with a 40x Optical Zoom; Allows you to take a 4-K Time-Lapse; Has a special built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth; Allows for a 7.4 fps High-Speed continuous shooting

Not waterproof; Relatively heavier
