Canon Powershot S95 – Review

In this New Zealand exclusive review, Ashley Kramer discovers whether Canon's S95 can part him from his G11 It's confession time. I put my hand up for this review and frankly, did everything I could to get my mitts on Canon's new S95.
Pros:
  • Image quality
  • Low-light performance
  • Point-and-shoot simplicity
  • Excellent manual controls
Cons:
  • Limited zoom range
  • Effective but annoying pop-up flash

Canon Powershot S95

Building on the success of the S90, the S95’s handling has been improved and there are some useful new features. Image quality is also right up there with the bulkier LX5, but it does lose some flexibility as a result.

The Canon S95 is not designed for a beginner, someone who wants photos of the kids and dog. At first, the controls are confusing, one is never sure where the function you want is located. There are 13 physical controls including two adjustment wheels and some combination settings.
Pros:
  • Excellent image quality
  • small size
  • array of functions
  • fast operation
Cons:
  • Need to read manual to get the hang of the camera
  • Expensive at regular price

Pros:
  • Small, light and easy to use
  • with fast lens, very sensitive in low light, flexible with many programmable options, RAW, very good picture quality
Cons:
  • Expensive

Canon Powershot S95 review

The S95 looks almost identical to the S90, but it's slightly slimmer and also a bit heavier. Canon has used a new tactile coating on the body to improve handling in the absence of a hand grip and helps to make it feel more secure in your hands.
