Canon's PowerShot G5X is one of the most capable compacts around, delivering much of the experience of a larger camera in a smaller, lighter and often cheaper form factor. The really clever part is it's essentially based on the best-selling PowerShot G7X, but enhances it in a number of key respects...
Large and detailed built-in viewfinder; Fully-articulated screen with great touch interface; 1in sensor delivers a good balance of quality vs size; Flexible 24-100mm f1.8-2.8 zoom with 5cm macro; Built-in Wifi with NFC and good smartphone app; Three control dials and a fourth for exposure...
Larger and less pocketable than rival models; No 4k video; nor 1080p above 60p; No panorama stitching mode
By definition this is referred to as a point & shoot camera - but, it's far more than that. I would recommend it to anyone that likes great pictures.
Feature set very close to the much more expensive Canon 70D; I'm not qualified to write a full review so let me say that I have a Canon 5D full frame digital & this little guy/gal impressed me; I actually like using it very much.
Short battery life between charges; That can be solved with a spare battery; Proper settings can also extend the battery life a good bit
This is the first PowerShot camera I've owned. It's smaller than it appears in photos, but takes outstanding photos. The electronic viewfinder is excellent, bright and detailed. Controls similar to Canon DSLR's and menus are easy to follow. Well built and easy to carry.
Bought it a few weeks ago, so far quality is great with videos and photos, downside can't use external microphone on the hot shoe and didn't come with any cords for transferring directly from camera!
Very pleased with this camera. I wanted a pocketable camera (granted fairly big pockets) that would have DSLR like image quality and controls. I still prefer my DSLR for handing and responsiveness but, mainly used for travelling and being discreet, it fits the bill nicely and is a good compromise...
The new PowerShot G5 X is based on the same sensor system as the G7 X. It uses a 1-inch sensor (BSI technology) with 20MP and a professional 3:2 aspect ratio. Compared to the G7 X, the G5 X has a lot of new and additional features, including a high-resolution electronic viewfinder with 2.36 million...
I have downgraded from a (little used, as I simply didn't carry it around with me) full frame dslr to this compact and am pleasantly surprised at the image quality in good light. There is a definite loss of detail in low light but I can't expect miracles from such a small package.
Easy To Use; Great Image Quality; Nice Features and Settings
Not Good In Low Light
Firstly the delivery time was very good considering it was being sent to Northern Ireland. Ordered 3-5days and it arrives in two days. The camera feels solid in the had and is very well constructed. The controls are smooth and well laid out. It seems a lot of thought has gone into this camera.
I ordered this camera for a few reasons - mainly for a run and gun video camera. This is perfect for grabbing those quick shots for short films. It's also a perfect camera for YouTube videos if that's what you are after. It is also phenomenal for photos.
