Canon PowerShot G3 X Review

With a 1-inch sensor and 24x zoom, the PowerShot G3 X is an excellent mega-zoom camera worthy of enthusiasts.

Tremendous 24-600mm range; Excellent 20.2MP stills; High-quality 60p movies; Responsive at 5.9 fps

Expensive; No viewfinder; Poor ISO sensitivity

Canon PowerShot G3 X

The Canon PowerShot G3 X ($999.99) is a fantastic idea for a camera. Its 25-600mm f/2.8-5.6 zoom lens can cover a very wide range of photographic subjects, from sweeping landscapes to skittish wildlife, and its 20-megapixel 1-inch image sensor puts the smaller imagers found in pocket-friendly...

Long zoom range; 1-inch image sensor; Tilting touch-screen display; Framing assist function; Hot shoe supports add-on EVF and Canon Speedlites; Mic and headphone connections; Built-in ND filter; Sealed against dust and moisture; Wi-Fi

Focus on the sluggish side; Slow burst rate when shooting Raw; Takes a while to turn on; EVF is a pricey accessory

Canon PowerShot G3X review

The Canon PowerShot G3X is Canon's first big zoom, big sensor compact. Traditional super-zoom cameras have a lot to offer but, their typically small sensor size prompts many buyers to migrate upwards to a DSLR or mirrorless.

I love this camera

I love this camera, just one thing there are no replacement parts for this as I have been told by Cannon. I wanted to just find a replacement lens cap, something simple and after more than a month of back and forth emails, I was told a lens cap could not be replaced... just saying

Canon PowerShot G3 X

The Canon PowerShot G3 X is a compact camera that tries to offer it all: a massive zoom range plus a fairly large 1in sensor to get you good image quality for a compact fixed-lens device.

Immensely versatile zoom range; Quality construction; Good general image quality for a superzoom

No EVF; Poor RAW shooting performance; Worse max aperture than rivals

Canon PowerShot G3 X: Superzoom packs 1-inch punch of sensor power (hands-on)

Compact cameras are getting bigger, beefier and more advanced as the smartphone revolution takes over the lower-end of the market. We've already seen a handful of superzoom models with a 1-inch sensor at their core, but now it's Canon's turn to step up to the plate with the PowerShot G3 X.

fantastic piece of kit

Tried it, played with it, fantastic piece of kit, but didn't buy. A camera like this really has to have a viewfinder. Panasonic do them, Sony do them but still not Canon.
