I use this for recording my kids at their sports as well as general use. I'd recommend gening-up on the various terms used in this camcorder before buying if you're a casual user.

This is a super little camera that performs well in light and dark. The picture quality is excellent. The only thing not quite so good is battery life. Could be better.

The Vixia HF G30 is recognizable to both professionals and home camcorder users alike. It's comfortable to hold and its buttons are easily accessible. There's a front focus/zoom ring and an exposure dial which are both incredibly useful.

The LEGRIA HF G30 is the top of Canon's consumer camcorder range. It's very pricey, but offers features that push it firmly towards the serious end of the scale, including comprehensive manual settings and a sensor lifted from Canon's professional range.

Bulky Design

Incredible 20X optical zoom and 400X digital zoom, true HD, dual slots allow incredible flexibility, touch screen easy to use and sensitive, more features and manual control options than I would expect and I consider myself a beginner neophyte videographer and I am not overwhelmed.

Pros: All of the image quality and control of Canon's professional line XA20 and XA15 at a much lower price point. Cons: No XLR inputs The image quality and colors are great. I haven't tested it but I've read that there are about 8 stops of dynamic range which is not bad at this price.

This product is a joy to use, delivering excellent quality in a variety of situations. Battery life is good and camera controls are well laid out and straightforward to use.
