Canon EOS R Review

After nearly a decade of rumors, patents, and anticipation, Canon has laid its cards on the table, showing off its first full-frame mirrorless camera - the EOS R. When President and COO of Canon USA, Kazuto Ogawa, announced the Canon EOS R on stage at its event in early September, he shared an...

Canon EOS R review

The Canon EOS R is a full-frame mirrorless camera that both impresses and disappoints. On the plus-side it delivers good-looking photos, has a promising new mount with two exotic lenses at launch, great video autofocus, and the best performance from adapted EF lenses on a mirrorless camera.

Canon EOS R Review

In the Canon EOS R, we are looking at the future and I like what I see. In addition to being packed full of the latest technology and features, the EOS R comes with a new lens mount, the first new Canon full frame lens mount in over 30 years.

My New Favorite

This camera is spectacular. Reading the reviews I was a little skeptical and some problems like the crop in 4K are definitely not ideal. That said I have zero regrets with this purchase. Picture and video quality are absolutely phenomenal even _with_ a crop sensor lens (EF-S, Sigma DC).

Canon EOS R

Canon's first full frame mirrorless camera, the EOS R, arrived on Photo Review's desk late on Friday 9 November, just over two months after it was announced. Positioned to compete with the still-to-be-released Nikon Z6 and the Sony α7 III, the EOS R offers 30.3-megapixel resolution and introduces a...

Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera Review

There's a lot to like about the Canon EOS R, including its fast and accurate autofocus system; excellent image quality; tough but comfortable build featuring one of the best grips in the full frame mirrorless camera category; and Canon's top-notch color science, which is critical for serious...

Canon EOS R

Canon needs to do better. As it stands, the EOS R is no threat to the Sony a7 III, which is one of the most capable full-frame mirrorless cameras you can buy at any price. That it's $2,000 makes it a staggering value, and our Editors' Choice.

Proven 30MP full-frame sensor; Vari-angle touch LCD; Big, sharp EVF; 8fps continuous capture; Big shooting buffer; Broad lens compatibility via adapter; Unique native lenses

M-Fn bar tricky to use effectively; Uncomfortable rear dial; Omits focus joystick; No in-body stabilization system; Inconsistent metering; Single memory card slot; No PC sync socket; 4K video is heavily cropped

Canon EOS R review

The Canon EOS R is a very capable camera, and should satisfy many EOS DSLR owners looking for a solid mirrorless alternative. If we weren't bound by a system, however, it would be hard to pick the EOS R over its rivals, especially when you consider the price premium over the likes of the excellent...

Great handling; Excellent AF performance; Lovely touchscreen; Top-plate LCD is very versatile; Decent electronic viewfinder

No great size advantage over an EOS DSLR; Value of M-Fn control debatable; No AF joystick; 4K video limitations; Single SD card slot

Love It! - shot a full month with camera

1) I am a semi-pro. I sell enough work at shows and galleries around town to buy my gear, beer, and mad money. I do not consider myself a full pro as I do not make a living from photos. I shoot landscape, urban & former sports.

EVF Customizable buttons Touch AF!!! WYSIWYG Weather sealing; I've shot this in snow and rain the past month with 0 issues. Lens shutter when changing lens; This is well thought by C. R lens adapter works perfectly with all lens.

R lens are pricey currently; Give it some time and the SIgma's and Tamrons will release R compatible lens; My current fav lens is the Tamron 15-30 beast EVF and live menu drain the battery faster, but that is expected. Has yet to fill my car with gas
