My New Favorite

This camera is spectacular. Reading the reviews I was a little skeptical and some problems like the crop in 4K are definitely not ideal. That said I have zero regrets with this purchase. Picture and video quality are absolutely phenomenal even _with_ a crop sensor lens (EF-S, Sigma DC).

Canon EOS R review

The Canon EOS R is a very capable camera, and should satisfy many EOS DSLR owners looking for a solid mirrorless alternative. If we weren't bound by a system, however, it would be hard to pick the EOS R over its rivals, especially when you consider the price premium over the likes of the excellent...

Great handling; Excellent AF performance; Lovely touchscreen; Top-plate LCD is very versatile; Decent electronic viewfinder

No great size advantage over an EOS DSLR; Value of M-Fn control debatable; No AF joystick; 4K video limitations; Single SD card slot

Canon EOS R review: A new era for full-frame mirrorless

The Canon EOS R isn't just a mirrorless version of the 5D Mark IV DSLR. Nope, this full-frame mirrorless is a major turning point for Canon, embodying both risk and reward in one very capable and commendable product.

Full-frame sensor and new lens line-up delivers superb quality potential; Loads of customisation options; Intuitive touch controls and M-Fn Bar has potential; Finally a Canon mirrorless with impressive autofocus options; Can focus in very low-light conditions

Lenses really aren't small; Just one SD card slot; It's rather pricey; Learning curve for DSLR users: various settings hidden/require scrolling; Autofocus could be more precise in some situations

Canon EOS R: still a contender

When it launched in October 2018, we declared the Canon EOS R to be a "great success", despite some slight disappointment that it was closer to a mirrorless version of the Canon EOS 6D Mark II than the more advanced EOS 5D series.

Great image quality; Excellent EVF; Full-frame images in an APS-C like shell

No in-body stabilisation; Not the smallest full-frame CSC

Canon EOS R review: Off to a flying start

This is a cracking debut on the mirrorless camera market for Canon. It won't be a camera for every professional out there – not enough body controls, frames per second and battery life – but for enthusiasts who simply want the very best image quality, it has to make the shortlist.

Fantastic image quality; Surprising wealth of video modes; Particularly impressive autofocus function

Innovative touch bar is less than innovative; Battery life is underwhelming

Canon EOS R

Canon's first full frame mirrorless camera, the EOS R, arrived on Photo Review's desk late on Friday 9 November, just over two months after it was announced. Positioned to compete with the still-to-be-released Nikon Z6 and the Sony α7 III, the EOS R offers 30.3-megapixel resolution and introduces a...

Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera with RF 24-105mm f/4L Lens Kit , 30.3MP Full-Frame CMOS Sensor with Adapter Ring for EF/EFS Lens , Built-In Wi-Fi & Bluetooth

I am a serious amateur photographer and this is my first full frame camera (previous was canon 80d) Pros: This camera takes sharp pictures with ease. Build feels quality. Touch screen focus, and taking shot, makes taking photos from awkward angles a breeze.

Canon EOS R Mirrorless Camera Review

There's a lot to like about the Canon EOS R, including its fast and accurate autofocus system; excellent image quality; tough but comfortable build featuring one of the best grips in the full frame mirrorless camera category; and Canon's top-notch color science, which is critical for serious...
