A very simple and easy to use camera. If you are looking to just take good quality pictures and if you want something more than a standard digital camera (and something less than a DSLR) then a compact camera system is ideal; including your option to have additional lenses.
Smaller more portable body than many competing CSCs; compatible with a wide range of accessories; combination of sensor and Canon's optical excellence delivers sharp images

Have to buy and use adapter for access to wider range of Canon EF lenses; so-so battery performance; lacks a decent handgrip for a steady hold with longer optics; no on-board Wi-Fi; no optical or electronic viewfinder built-in
Looking for SLR-like image quality in a compact body? The EOS M offers the best of both worlds, with the added benefit of interchangeable lenses. However, its sluggish autofocus may deter point-and-shoot upgraders. Suffice to say, the EOS M had so much potential to disrupt the ILC market.
Very easy to use for beginner photographers; Offers similar image quality to the EOS 650D; Excellent HD video quality; and sound from the internal mic is good; Lightweight; portable and takes regular Canon EF lenses with an adapter
Can't start video recording in any other dial mode apart from movie; No option for an electronic viewfinder; No pop-up flash; though one is included in the box; Slow autofocus; resulting in very long shutter lag times
I have to say I am very impressed with this camera. Yes, there have been some people disappointed with the auto focus, but it depends on the lighting, the composition...for the most part this camera does not miss the mark. The colors are true, crisp contrast...it's very nice.
Canon is one of the last major camera manufacturers to release a compact system camera despite its long history. So was it worth the wait? Well, if you're familiar with Canon S-series compacts, you'll certainly find the EOS M looks reassuringly familiar.
The Canon EOS M is a compact camera with interchangeable lens with a CMOS sensor APS-C 18 MP and DIGIC 5 image processor 14-bit. The camera is equipped with the nuvo Ybrid AF system for a continuous auto focus for both video and photos to (1080p Full HD video with stereo audio and Video Snapshot...
CMOS sensor APS-C 18 MP; touch display 7.7 cm and 1.04 million points, Scene Intelligent Auto, Creative Filter; Video Snapshot, Full HD 1080p, 14-bit DIGIC 5; Hybrid AF System for photos and videos; sensitivity, ISO 100-12, 800, expandable to ISO 25, 600, Basic Functions
Price
Being a long time Canon user I bought this second hand in excellent condition for a ridiculously good price ($[*] Australian including both lenses and flash) as a 'walk about' digital camera with good technical image quality (my 5D Mk II and lenses are a bit over the top at times).
Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Lightweight; Strong Construction
No Electronic Viewfinder; Slow Focus; Touchscreen Sensitivity
Canon hasn't exactly been quick out of the blocks in the race to launch compact system cameras and its first, the EOS M, comes four years after Panasonic kicked-off the whole shebang back in September 2008 with the launch of the Lumix G1 .
The Canon EOS M delivers on the image quality front, but is otherwise ultimately a let down. It's late to the compact system camera game and fails to offer anything truly special.
Image quality is DSLR-matching; EF-S lens adapter accessory available; flash included; fully manual movie mode with great results
Too pricey; autofocus system slower than the competition; battery life limitations; touchscreen has to be used to find certain settings/modes; no electronic viewfinder possible; limited EF-M lens options; flash not built-in
