Canon EOS 5DS review review

Top notch image quality; Improved build to reduce vibrations; Swift and accurate focusing;

Maximum 12,800 ISO; The 5D Mark III is better for video;

Canon EOS 5DS review: Resolution revelation

Canon had dilly-dallied around the resolution conundrum for what seemed like an eternity. "Push beyond 22-megapixels? Golly, no way" was pretty much the message for years. And then it goes and releases a 50.6-megapixel full-frame DSLR, the EOS 5DS. And, frankly, it's bloomin' brilliant.

Hugely impressive image quality (when matched with best lenses and suitable shutter speeds

No tilt/vari-angle screen; not the best for fast-moving subjects (high shutter speeds essential

Coming from best of the brands, Canon EOS 5DS shows the level of detailing that we have seldom see in the DSLRs. Its unmatched picture quality and sensor quality is par excellence.

There was a time when Canon led the high resolution large-format sensor race by a pretty comfortable margin (those were the days…), but since the last iteration of its flagship ‘Ds' series way back in 2008, the company's DSLRs have been stuck hovering around 20MP.

Class-leading 50.6MP image resolution; Pleasing out-of-camera colors; particularly skintones; 61-point AF system with 41 cross-type points; 5 dual cross-type; high precision points offer uncanny precision with newer lenses; 150,000-pixel RGB+IR metering sensor enables iTR; and also rudimentary face...

Raw dynamic range limited compared to peers; Base ISO images can be noisier than the best of the competition; Low light performance limited compared to peers; ISO cap of 12,800 (6400 for Auto ISO) feels arbitrary and limiting; JPEGs not as sharp or detailed as some competitors; AF subject tracking...

ISO not great, but resolution is incredible

Resolution is incredible, but I wish it had the ISO capability of the 5d mkiii. Still I knew about it going in, so I can't complain too much. Delivery was fast. Camera was in excellent shape when it arrived.

Canon EOS 5DS review

The Canon EOS 5Ds is essentially an EOS 5D Mark III with twice as many pixels. Sure there's a number of other small but useful upgrades, many focused on ensuring the resolution isn't squandered by vibration, but there's no denying the 5Ds is all about the sensor.

Industry-leading 50 Megapixel resolution; Powerful 61-point AF system with custom presets; Bulb timer; intervalometer; varied mirror-lockup options; Enhanced viewfinder with lots of shooting information

Needs the best lenses and precision technique; Noise creeps into files from 400 ISO; No Wifi; no 1080 video above 30p; no 4k; no hybrid AF; Non-articulated screen; focus peaking or zebra patterns

I ended up keeping very little of this bundle. ...

I ended up keeping very little of this bundle. I thought the I would be dollars ahead to buy the bundle but after researching, very little of it was more than dime store. I kept the body, cards, batteries, and one lens. Other than that, if you want quality, do not buy this bundle.

Who said low light is not possible with 5DS

Use a quality tripod and you will get amazing results in low light. ISO 500, F2.8 , .5sec, 70-210 L lens This camera is now my preferred for landscape picture taking over my Canon 5D Mark III.
