Canon took the standard Rebel and whittled it into a smaller body, removing only a few features, while adding one very important one: improved live view autofocus. The result is a mature camera for the family photographer that's not a burden to bring along, but which can also serve as a reliable,...
Pros:
  • Very small and light with good grip for small to medium-size hands
  • High ISO shots are quite usable
  • even above ISO 6400
  • Excellent LCD and responsive touchscreen
  • Special coating minimizes fingerprint smudges from touchscreen use
  • Hybrid AF II / STM lens combo is noticeably improved for live view...
Cons:
  • May be too small for those with larger hands
  • Grip may be insufficient for use with larger lenses
  • AF illuminator integrated into flash (must have flash engaged to use it
  • Flash produces red-eye in Night portrait mode
  • Non-STM lenses struggle in live view and in movie servo AF
  • Default dynamic range...

If you're looking for something which is truly portable, but still retains DSLR-type stylings and operability, take a look at the Panasonic G5 or the newer Panasonic G6

I'm reviewing the SL1 as a long-time Canon DSLR user and one that has been searching for a good, small, speedy backup camera for casual use. I'll leave the highly technical issues such as ISO performance to others. I've had a series of smaller cameras like the Canon G11.

This tiny digital SLR may be small, but it competes with much larger cameras

Canon has always been an easy choice for entry-level digital SLR cameras, combining low prices with good feature-sets and impressive image quality in its basic EOS range. Nikon has recently taken the crown with its D3200, though - Canon's response has been to diversify and offer three entry-level...

  • Good ergonomics for its small size
  • Good image and video quality
  • Simple
  • easy to operate
Cons:

Awesome little DSLR

I purchased this camera about 3 weeks ago and it is great to carry around when I am not using my Canon 60D. Light weight, small size and you can use your Canon lenses. I am p`d off because I ordered it through Henry`s on-line, paid $799.95 and now Henry`s has it on sale for $50.00 less!

Canon EOS 100D DSLR Review

The Canon EOS 100D is the smallest DSLR available with an optical viewfinder, and appears to be Canons answer to DSLR-style mirrorless cameras, being roughly the same size as the Micro Four Thirds Panasonic Lumix G6 , as well as roughly the same price, although the G6 features a swivelling touch...

Canon EOS 100D review

The compact proportions of the 18 megapixel Canon EOS 100D and its relatively lightweight feel make it an ideal holiday camera, for when you want that DSLR quality, while the smaller size also makes it less intimidating for human subjects, resulting in shots that feel less 'forced'.
Pros:
  • Compact body
  • Lightweight
  • Good image quality
Cons:
  • No tilting LCD
  • Indoors shots can be soft
  • Not much cheaper than 700D
