Really love this camera

After losing several "point and shoot" (compact) cameras over the years, mostly to zoom mechanism failures, I decided to upgrade to a digital SLR. CNET rated the Canon EOS 100D as the best digitial SLR under $1000, but it was still out of my price range.
Pros:
  • Compact
  • Screen size

Sweet little camera

I bought this camera as a second body to use with my fast prime lenses to shoot available light. It is great for the purpose. Small and light but full featured. Is a great bridge between my 60D and my point and shoot walk around camera.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus
  • Fast Shutter Speed
  • Good Image Quality
  • Good Image Stabilization
  • High ISO Performance
  • Large Clear LCD
  • Quiet

Big Performer Small Package

Small in size Big on performance! I've been waiting a while for the price to drop on this one. Finally bought it for under 500, Body and 28-55 IS STM Lens. Zoom action of lens could be smoother, specially shooting video. All in all this little Canon swings a big digital!

Great camera!

Excellent camera for a beginner on SLR's like me. A friend of mine who is a professional photographer suggested it to me as it's a good starting camera and doesn't break the bank. I have only experimented a few of it's functionalities and so far I can say that I am very pleased with the purchase.

Canon Rebel SL1

I've always used Canon cameras (my brother's or parent's when I was a kid) until I received my first 35mm Canon camera. I have had 2 Canon point-and-shoot cameras, and now the SL1.
Pros:
  • Awesome camera
  • I had used other people's SLR cameras and fell in love with them
  • I never had the opportunity to grab my own until this company (through Newegg) put the SL1 on sale for $479
  • I had my heart set on Canon since that's the only brand I've ever owned.
Cons:
  • This isn't really a con
  • but if you're used to using the camera on your phone or a point-and-shoot
  • be ready for a steep learning curve because this is a professional camera

I would definitely recommend this…

I would definitely recommend this to anyone who just wants a beginner camera. It is definitely worth the money. The only complaint is that the zipper (the longer part that you use… I don't know what you call it) on the inside of the case broke the first time I used it.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Fast / Accurate Auto-Focus
  • Fast Shutter Speed
  • Good Image Quality
  • Good Image Stabilization
  • High ISO Performance
  • Large Clear LCD
  • Quiet

Brilliant package

This combination of camera, wide angle zoom and telephoto zoom lens is a brilliant package. The lenses both have image stabilisation which negates the constant need for a tripod and the picture quality is first class.

First digital SLR

Very early on with this camera, but we have always had good results with Canon products and this one is following suit. The controls and touchscreen can be figured out quite easily, and offer a lot of flexibility. The automatic modes work very well.
Pros:
  • Intuitive controls Lots of options Good results Nice package
Cons:
  • Tendency to overexpose in automatic

Didn't think I could use one of these

I've seen family members use SLR and DSLR in the past and wrote it off as too hard to do. Use of this Canon SL1 camera is like school. You can start at the very beginning with LOTS of help and move up in gradual steps to use of it by hand with lots of accessories.
Pros:
  • dvd cd and paper instructions
  • "just right" size for smaller hands
Cons:
  • might be "too small" for larger hands
