I have owned my Canon Rebel T1i for a few years now but only just got around to buying a second lens for it recently. I love everything about nature and wildlife; a great subject for photography. With the 18-55mm I could never quite get that perfect shot of wildlife.

Fast, capable, accurate lens.

I always carry a P&S camera with a fast f/1.8 lens and 3X zoom. But, for more distant subjects I use the Canon 55-250mm on a Canon T3i camera - and it does a great job.
Pros:
  • Consistent Output
  • Durable
  • Easily Interchangeable
  • Fast / accurate auto-focus
  • Lightweight

Successful purchase - Canon EF-S 55-250mm IS Lens

I bought this lens this week and I have been using it with my Canon 300D as my first additional lens to the one that came with the camera. I am very pleased indeed with the lens. I have taken some great bird photos and one or two others this week. The images are sharp and clear.

Great lens

I got this lens with my 500D and have used it too many times to count. It takes very good photos and the only flaw I can find is that the focus doesn't lock when set to auto-focus which may cause damage to the lens if turned accidentally, this problem has been fixed with the new model of the lens...
Pros:
  • Super-sharp images

Nice lenss for the buck

Nice lens and focal distance. Size light enough to carry on camera all day. Long distant focus can be an issue in auto mode. Manual focus helps in that case. Great compliment to the standard lens that comes with most cannon EOS cameras.
Pros:
  • Easily Interchangeable
  • Lightweight
Cons:
  • Lens Creep

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS review by makcv113

I needed a telephoto to shoot a night time softball game. I passed on Tamron/Sigma's 70-200mm 2.8 because I read that they autofocused slow. Also I passed on the 70-200mm F4L thinking that performance wise, it would be almost the same as this 55-250mm.
Pros:
  • Quality for price
  • great in daylight
Cons:
  • slow aperture
  • not good in lowlight
  • looks ugly

Better Than More Expensive Lenses

I bought this lens last summer and have taken well over 1000 pics with it. My demands are high as I photograph small birds which can be difficult at best. I take most pics at about 5 - 20 meters in dense brush. I use AF centre selection to focus directly on the tiny bird.
