I am a armature and bought this lens to complement the kit lens on my T3, great lens, great price, I am very pleased with the results of the pictures using this lens. I didn't go with the 70-300mm because the price with the IS was out of my budget, this was a great compromise.

I had ordered a great package deal that turned out to be a mistake on the website so instead of getting the camera bundled I thought I was getting, I only got the lens. The lens by itself wasn't a great deal so after a few emails to Walmart.com complaining about them not honoring the package I had...

Excellent lens

Took some action shots at my son's hockey game and both the auto focus and image stabilization were fantastic. Even with the hockey glass in the way, the resulting pictures came out incredible. This is a Great product. And the price was right with the best buy sale.

Great Zoom Lens

This is an excellent zoom lens and even better it was compatible with my Cannon 650D SLR. The lens is lightweight and simple to use with "Image Stablizer". Thie lens represents great value for money.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS

The Canon EF-S 55-200mm is equivalent to a 88-400mm lens on a film camera. This makes it a great all-round telephoto lens that's capable of capturing the action even when it's a long way away; football, rugby and cricket matches are good examples, as well as most types of motorsports.

A must have in every photographer's bag!

Pretty much this is a zoom lens that enhances any enthusiast photographer's capabilities of shooting moments at a far distance. It's quite useful, especially if you're a wildlife photographer, and don't want to scare the target (bird, reptile, etc.

So far so good

Pretty great lens for the price. I had been looking for a while at the 70-300 range, but none featured IS. I read a lot of reviews and watched tons of videos. This one seemed to be the best, i was willing to pay the $250 they charged on Amazon, but at $170 this was a steel.

Better Than More Expensive Lenses

I bought this lens last summer and have taken well over 1000 pics with it. My demands are high as I photograph small birds which can be difficult at best. I take most pics at about 5 - 20 meters in dense brush. I use AF centre selection to focus directly on the tiny bird.

Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS review by makcv113

I needed a telephoto to shoot a night time softball game. I passed on Tamron/Sigma's 70-200mm 2.8 because I read that they autofocused slow. Also I passed on the 70-200mm F4L thinking that performance wise, it would be almost the same as this 55-250mm.
Pros:
  • Quality for price
  • great in daylight
Cons:
  • slow aperture
  • not good in lowlight
  • looks ugly
