Versatile Lens suitable for most occasions

18-200 means it covers most situations from portraits and indoor shooting to sports fields. Great for travelling as it fits on-camera in most camera cases. Canon cameras with the 1.5x CCD such as the 500D mean this is really shooting 27 - 300mm. Very versatile.

This lens is cheap. Both in price and construction. With that in mind, it is a good product. Pictures are sharp, as the glass is of the typically great quality. The vr works adequately.

Great Lens, Good Price

It is great not having to switch between lenses for everyday shots, both close-up and at a distance. I highly recommend this lens.

Brilliant!

A lens this versatile will always have shortcomings but there are few. That stunning 18-200mm zoom range means this lens stays on the camera body almost all the time and if a situation calls for taking minimal gear, this is the lens that has the fun.

A Great "Do-It-All Lense"

Its been almost 1 year since I have been using this lense. Its been an amazing experience. If you are just a hobbyist photographer and don't get paid for clicking and neither you are a millionaire who can spend on 3-4 prime lenses for different focal lenghts, then this is the ONE lense for you (If...

Covers a good range from wide to telephoto, focus speed is pretty quick for non-usm and accurate, you can get very sharp photos in good light. You can get by with one lens solution - great for non-pro users.Manual focus ring is tiny and loose, not easy to use.
Pros:
  • Fast focus
  • good zoom range
  • good IS
  • high picture quality
Cons:
  • No USM
  • manual focus not easy
  • expensive

Great overall lens

Pros: Great overall lens, allows me to take only one lens. Pictures look great. Cons: Only annoyance is that the lens 'trails out' when hanging by the neck strap. Seems like that could have been engineered out.

Not particularly good

I've had this lens for about a month. I've used it for some landscape, some street pictures around town and some shots of flower gardens and macro photos of flowers. I've used it on a 50D body and a T3i body about equally.
Pros:
  • Lightweight
  • Wide Focal Length Range
Cons:
  • Lens Creep
  • Poor image quality
  • Poor in Low Light

Canon 18-200 Lens

This lens gives me excellent color and sharpness with my T4i,60D, and 70D bodies. It focuses fast and eliminates lens changing. It is made very well and has ample body and weight to it as well as having a metal mount. I highly recommend a Tiffen UV filter to protect the len's glass.
