The Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS is is a versatile zoom lens and could well be your first kit lens upgrade

The pictures below illustrate the focal length range from wideangle to telephoto:
Pros:
- Huge 11x focal length range
- ideal general purpose and travel lens
- Excellent image stabilization system
- consistently delivering three to four stops benefit
- Good central sharpness at all focal lengths (but inconsistent corners
- Attractive rendition of out-of-focus regions of the image
- Improved...
Cons:
- Poor sharpness across much of the frame at 18mm and wider apertures
- Pronounced barrel distortion at wideangle
- and pincushion distortion around 50mm
- High levels of chromatic aberration at either end of the zoom range

Jack of all trades...
This is Canon's first foray into the superwide to telephoto class of lenses. It still needs some work As the title implies, this lens does a lot, too much in fact. It suffers from the problems associated with long zooms: pincushion and barrel distortion, and the edges aren't very sharp at most...

A really good all-around lens. If I had to take only one lens on vacation, this would be it. The combination of wide angle and zoom make it very versatile. Some reviewers have complained of lens creep - the model I received had a manual lock that prevented creep, but you have to unlock it every time...
Pros:
- The IS function works good as long as you're not over-caffeinated, I imagine a system built into the camera body works better though
- Decent focusing speed and low-light performance
- Great zoom and wide angle.
Cons:
- Heavy
- Obvious vignetting
- Obvious spherical aberration, Power consumption is high with the IS switched on, and ***the IS does not seem to shut off when you turn the camera off!*** I have to shut off the IS independently
- of the camera power.

Convenience costs....
No lens in this catagory is perfect, you have to accept each lens shortcomings...this lens works best with the canon auto focus system hands down, tamron and others take forever to focus and often frustrate. While not perfect...clearly works better than others.
Pros:
- Consistent Output
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
Cons:
- Heavy
- Lens Creep

18-200mm Canon lens it's what you expect from the biggest company.
Brilliant lens to whoever wants a lens that can perform at wide range of lengths, I would strongly recommend.
Pros:
- Build quality
- Image Stabilization
- good range of length so know need to change lenses
Cons:
- Weight
- movement in the lens because of weight
- price

Decent All Rounder and Travel Lens
"Covering 18mm to 200mm provides a huge amount of versatility with this lens. If you need to travel light and can only bring one lens, this might be perfect for you because it was for me.

Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens
18-200mm Canon lens, it's what you expect from the biggest company. I was very surprised when I got it out of the box, it is a lot heavier than expected, which brings along the problem when you have the lens about halfway and look down or up than it opens or closes under it's own weight which is a...

Very versatile lense
I owned this lense before. Unfortunately, the barrel should be locked while in carrying mode. Otherwise can be fragile fully extended.
Pros:
- Easily Interchangeable
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Ideal all around lense
Cons:
- Lens Creep
