The Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM (16-35mm equivalent in 35mm parlance) was designed to cover the APS-C format, specifically the EOS 20D and both EOS Digital Rebels (plus future APS-C models). Canon's EF-S lenses (S = Short Back Focus) are physically matched to these cameras.

i use this lens in social photos, weddings, music shows, skate photos, is very good for that.
Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus
It worked just like I expected it too but better. I used it at a work party in a limo and it worked great for getting the whole inside limo in the shot! My favorite shots to use this lens with are vehicles and cities. I am still exploring uses for it!

The Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM lens was announced alongside the EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM in August 2004. The EF-S 10-22mm finally provided Canon's budget and mid-range DSLRs with an ultra-wide angle option which until then was noticeably absent.
This is one of the best lens you"ll buy for your Canon camera.
Since I put it on the camera and started using it I haven't taken it off.
Super wide shots and very sharp. I've used it at night and have gotten some very impressive shots. I highly recommend this lens.

The ‘EF-S' designation is Canon's way of labelling lenses with Short Back Focus, which indicates the distance between the sensor plane and the rear element of the lens is shorter than in an EF lens.
One of the problems with the current level of Canon DSLRs that have video capabilities is their inability to snap to Auto focus as you shoot 'film'. One trick that I have learned is by using this lens as the depth of field at that range is quite wide.
