Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM Lens Review
Handling and features Performance Verdict Specification Canon have given the 70-300mm range an L-series makeover and as a result this lens sports silent autofocus, with full-time manual override, weather sealing, optical stabilisation and tougher build quality than you might normally find on a lens...
Pros:
- Excellent build quality
- Very good sharpness that is consistent through the range
- Low CA
- Low distortion
- Effective optical stabilisation
Cons:
- May seem expensive for a f/4-5.6 zoom (although the premium is probably worth the extra in this case

Canon 70-300 L IS
The worlds best 70-300. This lens is amazing and will not let you down. Perfect for full frame or crop sensor Canon DSLRs. Great focal range for field sports such as rugby, soccer etc. The AF and stabilizer are awesome.

70-300mm
A bit too expensive than its tamron counterpart but they differ in quality. Amazing picture quality is given by this lens. Perfect zoom and sharp and fast focus. A nice lens to buy.

I bought this because I do a bit of "birding" and I wanted a long lens. The non "L" version was a bit disappointing. This is substantially bulkier, and heavier but oh my, it is terrific!
Pros:
- Sharp as a tack
- good fast focusing
Cons:
- Big
- heavy
- (compared to non L version

Great lens for the price.
I bought this lens years ago, but don't have the need to use it much. Reading reviews about poor focus at 300mm, I thought I would take a couple of shots. I shot this photo of a cedar fence at 20 ft at 300mm. I thought the IQ was very acceptable for this price lens.

Great Lens
If you're on a 1.3x or 1.6x crop body (the XTi for example) will give you 112-480mm, which is nice for the extra distance, however, if your wanting to be up with your family and friends and get full body shots you have to be standing quite far away.
Pros:
- Excellent image quality while not an L series lens with a wide aperture it still rocks in cloudy/low light conditions
- I've taken 2,000+ images with this lens and it has not let me down
Cons:
- Louder auto focus than other USM lenses, not by a lot though
- Autofocus hunts in lowlight at 300mm

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM review
Canon's lens range is already extensive and includes two 70-300mm models: the f/4-5.6 IS USM and f/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM optics. The new Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM is one of the company's professional L-series models, in traditional off-white with the distinctive red ring around the front.

When Canon first announced this new 70-300mm L-series optic, we weren't really sure why it was being added to the range. Initially we thought it was just another 70-300mm lens but with some optical improvements and white plastic added to make it look and feel more professional.
