Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L IS Review
The Canon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 L IS is a wonderful lens. It's made mostly of alloy; even its filter threads are metal.

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM review by Apricane
This lens is simply awesome. It checks every box in the image quality department: it is sharp, has good contrast, essentially normal distortion for such a long zoom, and very little to no chromatic aberration (that I could notice on the shots I took so far).
Pros:
- Sharp as hell
- good contrast
- hefty
- quick and accurate AF
- pleasing bokeh
Cons:
- A tad slow
- comparatively heavy
- sizeable
- and somewhat expensive

Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS USM
Canon's EF 70-300mm f4-5.6L IS USM brings L quality to this popular zoom range. You get tough build quality, quick and quiet USM autofocusing, full-time manual focusing, effective image stabilisation and great optical quality in a barrel that's comfortably shorter (albeit fatter and heavier) than...

It's just a joy to use, and very sharp. It's also a significant step up from the Tamron 70-300 VC, you'll have no worries shooting wide open at 300mm with this one! Perfect on APS-C. Also, do not underestimate how important portability is, it's very compact at 70mm.
Pros:
- Sharp throughout zoom range at f5.6, colour and contrast fantastic
- Auto focus is amazingly fast, IS is superb
- Very compact, not overly heavy
- Metal filter threads
- Zoom lock means hood can be stored in reverse orientation and still removed without zooming the lens out
Cons:
- None, well, maybe price
- The relatively slow aperture and extension on zooming are not cons, in lens terms they are necessary design compromises to make it the size, weight and focal length range it is

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM L IS - APS-C Format Review / Lab Test
We've just tested the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM L IS within its native full format scope so you may forgive us that we've pretty much copied the introduction. Versatile lens, Great for wildlife shots
I was looking for a lens that could take shots of wildlife from a distance. This lens certainly fits the bill and the IS helps in low light. I was also looking at the 100-400mm lens but the negative comments about its barrel focusing system pushed me towards this one.
Pros:
- Consistent Output
- Durable
- Easily Interchangeable
- Fast / accurate auto-focus
- Rugged
- Strong Construction
Cons:
- Heavy
- Poor in Low Light

Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM L IS - Full Format Review / Test Report
The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM L IS delivers high quality results throughout the zoom range but especially at 70mm. At 300mm it is clearly better than its in-house cousins (EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS & EF 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 USM DO IS) reaching very good to excellent center results combined very...

"Canon"
This is a good quality product that offers good value for money in the very short term. Although as with most products of this type, the value will deteriorate over time and should be able to get a cheaper version next year. It's a great device with plenty of features that I would highly recommend.
Pros:
- Good Lens
Cons:
- None

Canon EF 70-300mm f4-5.6 IS USM
Good performance, decent value and excellent image stabilisation. However, it's pretty bulky and suffers from ‘zoom creep'
