Bought this lens a few days ago to replace my 70-200 F4L. It's big, heavy and expensive. But it's also the best zoom lens Canon has ever produced. I'm completely happy. It's just as sharp as any prime I have.

Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II USM Review
This is a really lovely lens to use. It has perfect balance when mounted on a Canon EOS 5D Mk II, its removable tripod-mounting collar falling neatly into the user's left palm. The rubber-grip zoom ring is perfectly placed and offers just the right amount of resistance.
Pros:
- Fantastic peak resolution
Cons:
- Expensive

It was time to move up from my 70-200 F4L and the older f2.8 version's were not an option due to their week performance at f2.8 so I bit the bullet. So far this lens almost stays permanently on my 5D MKII and it has earned it's money back several times over.
Pros:
- Very very sharp
- Too sharp actually at times
- weather sealing
- nice new locking hood design
- Improved IS over older versions
- can really hand hold to 3 real stops under
- 3D like rendering of subjects in circle of confusion ( Almost Pentax limited lens like
- great colour rendering and contrast,...
Cons:
- PRICE
- I don't know of Pentax patented it but a hood window to adjust polarizing filters or similar would be nice
- Strange bokeh
- it's a bit harsh with back ground high lights and can make some hard yet still round halos.

The best lens in my bag
I had the version 1 of this lens that after a calibration from Canon it was one of the best lenses I had. Initially I was sceptical about this new one but still gave in and bought the Mk 2 version. I am not a pixel peeper but the difference is very obvious.
Pros:
- Very high resolution
Cons:
- Bulky

Excellent
Bought this product after much research.. was planning to get the earlier version of this but then when this one came I was hooked on to its clarity.. a must buy for any serious photographer.. thought a bit heavy, its performance is the best in the lot..

The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM is a member of Canon's flagship L-series of lenses. This lens is tough and built for the rigours of professional use, featuring dust and water-resistance. Four-stop image stabilisation is available with two modes for static and moving subjects.

A definite must have for any Canon owner!
Excellent lens to the Canon lineup and I must say one of the sharpest lenses I've ever had the opportunity to use period. The new formula Canon has used for this lens makes the images very sharp and the image crops are amazing to look at.
Pros:
- Superb image quality (crops are still amazingly clear)
- very fast AF
- IS is as advertised and better than the Mark I
Cons:
- Hefty piece of glass...some may have difficulty the jump in price from the Mark I

I sold my f/2 135L and my 70-200 2.8L IS (I) to buy this lens. Absolutely no regrets. The 135 was an amazing lens, but without IS, I was just not always willing to shoot with it under about 1/100 due to camera shake.
Pros:
- fantastic images throughout the range and apertures
Cons:
- Just not a good walk-around lens due to size

Expensive, heavy, and totally worth it!
If you are considering this lens as an upgrade, do it sooner rather than later. If you are thinking that it's too expensive, and a lessser lens will work 'just as well' you are wrong.
Pros:
- This lens takes razor sharp pictures in every situation
- Low light, sports, portraits, and anything else
- I had been using the 75-300 IS F/4.5-5.6 Canon lens, but was having difficulty with school gyms and their low light
- This lens blows it out of the water!
Cons:
- This lens is heavy
- And expensive
- But the quality is unmatched, and the images it produces are outstanding
