Canon EF 50mm f1.8 MK2: cheap, but cheap for a reason

you might wish you'd paid more for the 1.4, especially if you break it

very sharp and a good lens to buy for beginners

feels very cheap, and can break easily; loud AF motor can alert subjects

This is a classic case of do not judge a book by its cover, this little lightweight lens really takes nice pictures, just goes to show canon can make lenses for a lot less money, yes the casing is weak if you intend to play cricket with it ( not advisable ) it will not last long but put it on your

Cheap as chips but still flashy

Anyone who has an interest in photography using SLR's and particularly Canon bodies should take a look at this prime 50mm lens. Extremely inexpensive for what it is, it delivers sharp images and does exactly what it says on the tin.

Cheap; lightweight; sharp pictures

Noisy motor; lack of zoom

I really enjoy the 1.8 aperture for portrait photography. I should have done research on the fact that my camera is a cropped sensor so the 50mm ends up being 80 or so but the lense is still great value for money

Good compromise

This is a reasonable compromise beween a big aperture and big money. The autofocus is a bit slow and hard to get use to, but when it's right it's really right. At the right price, it's a good value lens.

Excellent Lens at an affordable price!

This lens is a must have for any owner of a Canon DSLR. Brilliant for low light photography thanks to the f/1.8. Excellent bit of kit for the price, cannot fault it.

Great Lens!

This lens is awesome. First lens I've used other than the kit lens. Its SO Sharp! Not sure if I'll ever even use the kit lens again. Highly recommended, can't believe the price. Its too bad there are no other lenses of this quality anywhere near this price range.

Simple first prime lens

This was the first lens I bought (aside from the kit lens), because I was reading reviews on prime lenses and how the 'nifty fifty' was essential for every Canon photographer. This lens is really compact, but not very well built.

Super-sharp images

This lens is all you need All my reviews

Wow people told me how good this lens was and thought I had to get me one. Looked around and well over $100. Found Cameras Direct and wow under $100. Got the lens and man does this live up to the hype. Takes great pictures and in low light, like it is the middle of the afternoon.
