Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM
The Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM has a lot of excellent features. There are many ranges that are sophisticated. This lens first came out in 1993 and the roots of it can be traced much earlier. It is based on the manual focus FD 50mm F1.4 design. Ergonomically designed and easy to handle, it was designed with the user in mind. The dimensions of the camera are 73.8mm diameter x 50.5mm length. The focal length is 50 mm. Another feature is its ultrasonic motor.
If you are looking for a standard lens, it is the perfect option. It offers a large angle of view and there is no perspective distortion that you get with the telephoto lenses. It is perfect for taking professional quality photos. With the advent of the APS-C, it can do new things and is used as a short portrait telephoto.
This lens features a conventional design and has 7 elements divided into 6 groups. Two of the groups are made out of high-refraction glass. Focusing is done with an ultrasonic motor system. There is full-time manual override. The lens delivers a beautiful view with an excellent background. This is perfect for a fast lens that provides subject isolation. Furthermore, the lens’ colour balance is similar to the ISO recommended reference values. The result is higher quality photos. No matter the occasion, you will love using the Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM.
The Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM has a lot to offer and is one of the highlights in the Canon line-up. This lens offers outstanding value for the money. It is still one of the best lenses on the market. This is an excellent lens that delivers high quality photos. You can’t go wrong by owning it.
This lens has many strengths that are hard to beat. It is perfect for people looking to purchase a small lens. This allows you to obtain image quality that is not available on a zoom for the same cost. If you are looking for a high quality lens, you can’t go wrong with the Canon EF 50mm F1.4 USM.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM - APS-C Review / Retest
The overall build quality is very decent with a metal mount and an outer barrel made of good quality plastics. Manual focusing feels quite smooth albeit not damped. The broad, rubberized control ring is certainly a plus compared to the tiny focus ring on the EF 50mm f/1.8 II.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM review
If there was ever a lens in need of a revamp, it was this rather stripped-back golden-oldie of a nifty fifty…...- Extremely lightweight build
- Full-time manual focus override
- Significant autofocus issues
- Vignetting and poor sharpness
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens Great Lens!
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM Lens this is a great lens and everything I've asked of this lens it has done a great job at which includes thing such as taking portraits etc. Is does a really great job of shooting pictures when it is dark outside and I can't ask for too much more then that.
So far, so good
Lots of fun to experiment with this prime lens. Great pictures in low light. Nice portraits.- Great for portraits
- right price
- None
Best non L-Glass lens on the market.
I only wish the same optical quality was found in other wide angle lens from Canon in the same price range. Not as wide as you would like with a digital SLR, but it produces really good photos. tack-sharp. Great for portraits..- Everything
- It doesn't have a 24mm twin sister for the same price
Good lenses, but not worth the price.
The Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II lens being one of my favorite lens I own, I tought of upgrading it to this one. Is this one better? Undeniably, but considering the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II cost about 25% of the price of this one, the difference in build quality, USM and picture quality doesn't justify paying...
Ive owned this lens for 2-3 years and while its been good for low light with a Canon 5dMk 2, its build quality and reliability has not been good. Problems with focus jamming and rough manual focus was intolarable. I regretted not paying a bit more and buying a Sigma 50mm F1.4.
- lightweight and sharp
- poor contrast wide open
- plastic feel
- poor auto focus
- unreliable
Great fun with this 50mm lens.
Pros: Cons: Other thoughts: I purchased this lens to give our close up pictures that professional look. The low aperture of this lens allows for that great look, sharp and chrisp portraits with out of focus surroundings.
"A Prime Example"
Overview ------------- The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 sits in between the cheap-o f/1.8 mkII version and the ridiculously expensive f/1 .2 L-series version. There was a crazy f/1.0L lens at one time but this seems to have been discontinued (presumably as nobody could afford it).- Low light performance
- sharpness
- colour saturation and contrast
- Plasticy construction and poor feel of manual focus ring
Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM - Popular yet showing its age.
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM is probably the most common non-L-Series lens that you'll see in most professional photographers' camera bags. While the Canon EF 50mm f1.8 II Lens , commonly known as the "Nifty Fifty" is most common with amateur photographers and hobbyists, you'll actually be able to...- Low price point
- Good bokeh wide-open
- Non-rotating front element
- Solid construction
- Soft performance wide-open
- No ring USM
- Sigma is much better
