Satisfied so far but

So far so good. I am enjoying the lens as a single travel lens. However the salesman did not tell me I was getting a grey market product. I do think that should be revealed before purchasing.

So close...

"This L series lens is exactly what the travel photographer wants. Mostly. It's a perfect focal length range for a full frame camera body, it is very sharp and despite and extended focal length range does not exhibit significant barrel or pincushion distortion.

Great lens to take good pictures and zoom in on that far away subject.

Great lens. Bought to cover all other lenses, in other words, we do not have to swap lenses now. It is a bit heavy, and needs to be rested on something to take good clear pictures. Ideally it would be better if it was lighter. Ideal for a male to use, but a bit heavy (unless you are a weightlifter!

I must have a bad one?!?

I am using this lens on a 5D3. First the focusing is an issue since the camera is having problems it does not have with any of the other (5) L lenses I use. The ISO is also kicked into really high numbers in indoor shots and for no appreciable reason, resulting in very noisy shots.
Cons:
  • iso quirkiness
  • Semi-sharp images

Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM

The Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM ($2,689) is a bit of an oddity when compared with other modern lenses. Its push-pull design requires you to handle it like a trombone to zoom, and its high-end build quality (and price) are rare for an all-in-one zoom lens.
Pros:
  • 10.7x zoom range
  • Full-frame compatibility
  • Reasonably sharp through most of its range
  • Includes lens hood and tripod collar
Cons:
  • Expensive
  • Noticeable distortion
  • Soft edges
  • Push-pull zoom design
  • Some color fringing

Canon EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM Review

Canon's EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM lens covers an incredible zoom range and works with full-frame cameras, but its price and just-ok optics make it a tough sell. It's one of only a pair of full-frame lenses that covers this ambitious a zoom range—the other is the AF-S Nikkor 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR ($946.95 at Amazon) zoom for Nikon cameras. The Nikkor lens also makes some optical compromises to achieve such a long zoom range, but at $1,050, its asking price is a heck of a lot less. Canon's 28-300mm has the look of other L series zooms. Its barrel is all metal and finished in the classic off-white color that you see on the sidelines of every major sporting event. The push-pull zoom mechanism, which requires you to move the outer part of the barrel forward to zoom in and pull it back to zoom in, takes some getting used to, especially if you're used to modern zooms that almost un...

95% stays on my 1DSMarkIII

This lens stays on my 1DSIII 95% of the time. I also have the 24L, 100L IS, 100-400L with 2X&1.4. Granted it is fairly heavy but I do hike Yosemite with it.

This is a wonderful lens. It has just one drawback, and that is its weight. I wish it were lighter, but I've got plenty of arm and back strength, so it's doable. It takes beautiful pictures over a wide zoom range, so it is now my everyday lens.

The lens was second-hand and whilst there is a minor issue with the smoothness of the zooming, the lens was priced accordingly.
