This is the mark II edition of this lens and isn't just a minor tweak but represents a complete redesign. It boasts an extra two elements, taking the total number from 11 to 13, and its more rounded aperture is based on eight rather than seven diaphragm blades.
Pros:
  • Quality metal construction
  • Ring-type autofocus
  • Wide maximum aperture
Cons:
  • Disappointing sharpness
  • Expensive
  • Vignetting (corner shading) at maximum aperture

A must have prime!

Wow is this lens beautiful! Build quality is what you'd expect out of Canon's top of the line. It's rock solid. Feels great in the hand. Image quality is in my personal opinion unmatched for such a fast wide lens. It's most definitely a must have & must buy!

THIS IS A VERY GOOD LENS, BUT EXPENSIVE

I like this lens very much. I will be using it for group shots and for landscapes. Focus is good, and low light capabilities are great. Lens is heavier than I would have thought but still within reason.

Love this lens! Has changed how I shoot!

I mostly do portraits and event shooting with telephotos. But I bought this for the rare wide shots because I've always HATED my 24-70's soft focus! This prime lens is so sharp and consistent across the board I now choose to go wide 100% more of the time

Excellent lens

You have to like things wide to want this lens (I can easily shoot wider). Great for doco style, low light, action etc. Great bokeh from a wide angle. A good upgrade from the f/2.8 version. Only drawback is the extra weight and size.

Canon EF 24mm f1.4L II USM

By any standards, this Canon EF 24mm f1.4 is a pretty specialised lens. It's a fixed focal length optic in a camera world now dominated by zooms, and compared to the average zoom it's also fantastically expensive.

Satisfied!

Fast. Sharp. Essential to the prime lens collection. If you're wanting a wide angle, fast prime lens...this is the one you want. It's a Canon L-Series, so you can't go wrong.
