The Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM is the kind of lens that's always going to be held up to high scrutiny - it's the company's flagship standard zoom for professional photographers, and is expected to deliver top-notch results under all conditions. Happily, that's exactly what it does.

It is a Canon lens so I didn't have any compatibility issue with my camera body. The weight is not too bad and feels very balance when mounted on a 6D mkII body. The first copy I received had some horizontal play in the zoom ring. I requested for an exchange and got the second copy in today.

Yesterday saw some excitement among our Nikon readers with the launch of the new Nikon D800 DSLR – but also announced yesterday were 3 new lenses from Canon. The main one of interest is the EF 24-70 F/2.8L II USM.

I had now several standard zooms on Canon. All of them left much to deserve wide open. When comparing with the Zuiko 14-35 and the Sony Zeiss ZA 24-70, no Canon standard lens was close to them. Today I can positively remark, this Canon 24-70 made my day.

The original Canon 24-70 f2.8L has been established as a working photographers go to lens for years. The Mark II version has only improved on an already incredible lens. Pictures quality is good and macro function is awesome. I would say best buy for this range. Only problem is, a tripod is must since there is no IS/VR system, can?t expect professional level output tough, auto focus works fantastic in both modes. The price is worth it.

It is extremely sharp and great colours. Though I had a soft corner for mark I since I was under the impression it had a better construction. However, after I bought this I realised it is a false impression. it is well built. The output is amazing.

The latest in a line of storied lenses going back to the 28–80mm f/2.8–4L of April 1989, this is Canon's fourth high-speed, full-frame, standard-range, L-series autofocus zoom. The previous 24–70mm f/2.8L was introduced in November 2002, and compared with that lens, this version II ($2,299, street)...

Given the price of this lens, the lack of Image Stabilization is an unforgivable omission. If you read the Canon propaganda, it says that they skipped I.S. on this lens in the name of image quality; that adding I.S. would have somehow made it worse. Iu2019m not buying that argument.

This is a great replacement for my old 24-70mm. I conduct Photographic Tours in Lake Tahoe and use this lens every day! From Portrait to Landscapes this lens is tack sharp and produces beautiful images.
