Canon EF 17-40mm f4.0L USM

In the early days of digital SLRs, before the arrival of its smaller-format EF-S lenses, the 17-40mm was one of the mainstays of the Canon range, a super-wideangle zoom for the full-frame EOS 1Ds but also the nearest thing at the time to a ‘standard' zoom for the newer, smaller-format EOS models

Great "starter" professional lens.

The only thing I would comment on is that there is not enough "blur" for some portraits, but I knew that when I bought it. It produces great pictures! The clarity is wonderful!
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Good price value
  • High quality pictures
  • Quality Construction

I own this lens for 3 years. It is simply great on crop. Dust and Rain is not a problem. Light weight make it possible for camera to be on your shoulders all the time in bike tours!
Pros:
  • Build like a tank
  • Great lens for travel
  • You should try hard to broke it! Lowest weight for L lenses
  • Cool for APS-C
Cons:
  • Distortion on full frame
  • My copy isn't sharp at corners (not a problem on crop

Great piece of gear, relatively inexpensive and good quality

Excellent quality lens even with a full frame. I bought this to complement my 35mm F1.4L and my Carl Zeiss 18mm F3.5 Distagon. My 5D mark 3 can correct the aberrations of that lens. If you don't need 2.8 this is the only zoom choice. L quality with not much weight.

I bought this lens while I was away in my Military training, and coming back home to find me a nice looking lens. The condition was mint, although with some scratches as mentioned. I kept it safe and sound in my bag and used it 2 times without any problem. On the 3rd usage, the zoom did not work.
