But to be honest, I didn't know what to expect from the beta version of the Canon 16-35mm f2.8 L USM III lens that I tried.

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Lens Review

Prepare to be impressed: The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Lens delivers outstanding image quality, far surpassing its predecessor, in a very well built, great-to-use lens that features a range of focal lengths that I consider a critical part of most full frame (and many APS-C format) kits.

REVIEW: Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Review

Canon 16-35mm L lenses have an enviable reputation for quality and we now have the latest incarnation as the Mk III version. With a useful f/2.8 constant aperture and ultra-wide 16mm focal length this would be a versatile lens for much general work, including architecture, weddings and reportage.

Canon EF 16-35 mm f/2.8L III USM

Taking into account the fact that the first lens of that type was launched already in 1996 and five years later the company showed a model with a bit wider focal range we were surprised that the next version of the lens, marked as II and launched in 2007, was a fail.
Pros:
  • solid casing
  • excellent image quality in the frame centre
  • very good image quality on the edge of the APS-C sensor
  • good image quality on the edge of full frame
  • imperceptible longitudinal chromatic aberration
  • lack of serious problems with lateral chromatic aberration
  • moderate spherical...
Cons:
  • a bit too high coma for the longer end of focal range
  • monstrous vignetting on full frame

Awesome

This lens is awesome! I use it for super tight spaces or when I want a grand photo! Of course if you shoot low aperature it's not as good since the lowest it goes is 2.8, but for higher FStops it's awesome

Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM Review

The latest version of the Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM lens is its best take on an f/2.8 wide zoom yet. The Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM ($2,199) is an upgrade to the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM. It's more expensive—the II version was priced around $1,700—but sports superior optics for better results. It gives photographers the ability to use the lens at its maximum aperture and capture sharp images, which is what you're paying for when comparing it with the previous model or other zooms that cover a similar range. If you demand the best from your camera, and are a fan of the 16-35mm coverage range, it's the lens to get, and earns our Editors' Choice. Design Despite upgrades on the inside, the 16-35mm III ($2,199.00 at Amazon) doesn't look that much different than its predecessor. It follows the Canon L-series design motif, housing premium glass inside a tough polycarbonate barrel. It's black—Canon reserves gray barrels for its telephoto line—with a red accent stripe at the front. Front and rear caps, a reversible lens hood, and a soft carrying pouch are included. The lens measu...
