Not happy with this lens

I tested this lens on a full frame camera at every aperture under a variety of settings. The lens was not real sharp, even in the center, until around f/8 and showed a lot of distortion towards the edges regardless of the aperture setting.

Fast auto-focus; Superior build quality

Semi-sharp images

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 USM L II - Full Format Review / Test Report

The Canon EF 14mm f/2.8 USM L II is the widest full format lens in the Canon EOS lens lineup. Within its native format it covers a whopping field-of-view of 114 degrees. This is a bit beyond most ultra-wide applications for mainstream users but sometimes there's simply a need for such special effect...

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lens Review

Gary Wolstenholme reviews this ultra-wide angle 14mm f/2.8L II USM lens for Canon full-frame cameras.

Great build quality; Excellent sharpness in the centre; Relatively lightweight

Expensive; especially when compared to alternatives; Sharpness towards the edges of the frame could be better

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM

I needed to get this focal point twice to get a sharp duplicate, first one was off on the correct focus edge. This one I have now is flawless and handles bending and CA great and sharp appropriate to the edge.

Little; Light; Sharper then Canon 14mm I; No bending on a 1.3 body

Costly; front focal point pronto harm; yet the idea of the structure

Significant improvement over the previous lens.

As soon as i received it, i set my camera up on a tripod and shot the same picture, first with the old canon 14mm, and then with the new. The improvement in the new lens in terms of corner to corner sharpness was really significant.

Would definitely purchase again.

Love this lens, love it's perspective. Since purchasing three weeks ago it has hardly left my camera. Takes some practice learning how to use it. Sharp, minimal distortion - the beauty of a prime lens. Keep the lens cap on when not taking photos to protect the bulbous front element.

Awesome lens

This lens just arrived & I am so happy I chose this against any other zoom like the 17-40 etc. I'm using this on a full frame & it is very very wide with NO image distortion, it is pin sharp. I will be using this lens for interior of churches & landscapes. This without doubt is my fave lens of all.

Great for film!

The Canon 14mm f/2.8 L is a marvelous wide angle lens. Image quality:It is a little fuzzy around the edges at 2.8 but by f/4 is sharp all the way across the lens. Since this is primarily for landscapes, your f-stop is going to be higher anyway, so the f/2.8 is uncalled for.

Canon EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM Lens

Canon's EF 14mm f/2.8L II USM lens replaces an existing lens with similar specifications. Designed for professional photographers and usable on both 'full frame' DSLRs and models with smaller ('APS-C sized') image sensors, it has many of the same specifications as the lens it replaces.
