Great lens. Good value for money
This lens has opened a new world for me in miniature. I never realised how many bugs and even plantsthere are just in my own back yard to experiment with before going into the outside world. It's so much fun. The lens is fast sharp and easy to get used to.
We bought this used and it was supposed to be in "very good" condition. Definitely wouldn't consider that to be the case here. The main ring is loose and the lens looks like it has had a lot of use. The listing claimed it came with both the front and rear caps, which it did.
Great lens, as expected.
Super sharp images and saturated colors right out of the camera. The flower image accompanying this review was of a gooseberry blossom less than a half-inch long. If I had done more research, I would have noted the IS version of the lens, and probably gone for that, but I stick with a tripod almost...
It's a lump
This is one lump of a lens, I could not make my mind up between this lens and the L version, but the extra expense just for IS just ain't worth it, you can use it by hand if you can hold it steady, but most of the time it will be on a tripod.
Very good lenses for the price
Very sharp images, very good for product photography.
Perfect gift for a camera lover
I bought this for my partner's birthday, after he told me that he wanted a prime lens. I researched canon prime lenses on the canon website, and saw this one listed as a prime lens.
Great Macro Lens
Amazing quality, fast auto focus with some focus hunting depending if you are close to or a little out from the minimum focus distance to the subject. Other than that great feel, with helpful IS and focus limiters.
A 3-group floating system results in excellent delineation at all focusing distances. Ring USM for silent and high-speed AF, and full-time manual focusing also provided.
Good for sunny conditions, basically
I've had this lens for many years now being used on my 60D THE PROS: The image quality is spectacular. Everything is very crisp above f/3.5. f/2.8 is nice but the DOF is way too shallow and the parts that are in focus are not as crisp.
