It took awhile, but Infinity Ward finally got the message that World War II is played out. With modern times and international affairs becoming more and more, shall we say, interesting in recent years, the 1940s just don't carry as much weight as they used to.
High-quality story mode packs in a lot of thrilling and unexpected moments; Well-designed multiplayer progression gives you something to shoot for online; Terrific audiovisual presentation
Campaign mode is much shorter than those of the average shooter
The Call of Duty series is already nearly legendary for doing the impossible - making itself the clear class of an insanely crowded World War II shooter field. Now, after three installments set against the backdrop of the European theater, Infinity Ward has moved the game into modern times, with...
Engrossing and compelling campaign; Top notch audio and visual design; Terrific online multiplayer
Multiplayer matchmaking is frustratingly spotty, The campaign is short; Too short, No co-op
Infinity Ward haven't released a lot of games in their history, but they have created two of the best;
Look, I'll be honest (as I always try to be, rest assured) with you. I had precisely zero expectations for Call of Duty 4. Yes, I'd seen the trailer, and yes, I knew it was going to be different , but really and truly I'd become heartily sick of the Call of Duty formula after the near terminal dose...
Looks great; Sounds great; Plays great; Solid multiplayer; I think; I have a man-crush on Captain Price
Underneath; it's still plain ol' CoD; Perhaps a little uninspired; It's too damn short; Depressingly transparent at points

Top notch graphics and sound lead Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare to unrivaled heights. Throw in an engaging offline game albeit short and you have a nominee for Game of the Year. Rich, deep online play will keep fans of the genre and Call of Duty enthralled for months.
This release sees Infinity Ward finally admitting that the World War II genre is somewhat tired. Our modern times and international affairs now require a more engaging and realistic approach to first person shooters.
