Bowers and Wilkins was founded in 1965 as a boutique audio company. They spent the next 45 years building speakers, before stepping into the headphone with their P5 headphones, which were released to a fairly warm reception – they proved popular after the usual caution involved in a company

Bowers and Wilkins C5
Man, I really wanted to like these cans, they're so cool looking and innovative. But it's kinda like motorcycle racing: when you're pushing the envelope and go into a corner a little hot, you can end up out of shape and wadded into a hay bale pretty quick.

"B&W has taken their world-class, pro-tier studio speakers and shrunk them into two little ear buds. Like you're listening to a full room of sound rather than just headphones.

Bowers & Wilkins C5 In-Ear Headphones Review
British company Bowers & Wilkins make excellent loudspeakers and home theater systems for audiophiles. I've got a set of entry level B&W speakers at home and I like them very much. So when Bowers and Wilkins released their C5 in-ear headphones earlier this month, I immediately placed an order.
Pros:
- Warm, lush sound
- Lots of bass, Very good build quality for the price, Secure Loop and Micro Porous Filter features aren't a gimmick – they really work, Handsome zippered carrying case
- Sort of like a small chicken empanada made of black leather
Cons:
- Inline mic and controls only work well for iOS
- Android and other devices, not so much, High end and upper midrange freqs not very pronounced, though also not as fatiguing, Cable a little bit sensitive to body movement – you'll hear it in your ears when it rubs against your clothes

Bowers & Wilkins C5 Earphone/Headset (Playback 49)

Bowers & Wilkins C5 In-Ear Headphones Review
As you can see, I really like how the B&W C5 earphones sound. They are warm, very balanced and just plain refined, both in sound and build quality. They also make quite a design statement. My main gripe is that within an hour or two, they become uncomfortable.
Pros:
- Large soundstage
- Reasonably priced (for B&W)
- Solid build quality
- Balanced bass
- Sound good with different genres of music
Cons:
- Fit can irritate after a couple of hours use
- Over-engineered case
- Remote/mic only work with Apple

Coming Soon: Portable B&W
We'd be hard pressed to find an answer if you asked us to identify two pieces of audio gear we love listening to more than our Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin or PS5 headphones. But, we doubt you'd ever see us using them. Neither are exactly portable.

B&W's C5 In-Ear Phones
The iPod is often a bright spot for those that commute via mass transit. When the London Tube was part of my daily regimen, it seemed everyone wore headphones. However, bulky, noise-canceling ‘phones feel like winter earmuffs in the summer; too hot and sweaty for my taste.
