Bowers & Wilkins C5

Some audio brands are renowned for offering style over substance - relying on clever marketing and a stand-out design rather than good audio quality. Bowers & Wilkins tends to offer the style of these image-obsessed brands and great sound, with a price tag that - while reassuringly expensive - isn't...
Pros:
  • Excellent build quality
  • Striking design
  • Vivacious sound
Cons:
  • Bass lacks control

Bowers & Wilkins C5 Earphone/Headset (Playback 49)

The C5 ($179.95) is the first ever in-ear, noise-isolating headphone from the British firm Bowers & Wilkins, which is of course best known for its high performance loudspeakers. Firms such as B&W enjoy a hard won reputation for knowing how high performance transducers

Review: Bowers & Wilkins C5 Earphones

It's amazing sometimes what one simple design tweak can do for a product. Case in point: Bowers & Wilkins' elegant new C5 earphones . As anyone with oddly shaped auditory canals knows, most in-ear monitors rely on a dubious mix of proper tip/sleeve selection and getting the right seal.
Pros:
  • Wonderfully rich and open sound
  • Includes in-line mic with media controls
  • Exquisite build-quality
  • As beautiful to look at as they are to hear
  • Block out/isolate just enough sound to make them great for the outdoors
Cons:
  • A perfect fit in your ears and yet a horrible fit in the case - the taco-shaped, chintzy cloth carrier comes with a perplexing (and unnecessary) internal cutout mount
  • Slightly confusing and unintuitive MFI controls
  • Hit the center button twice for next song? Careful with the tips!

Bowers & Wilkins C5 In-Ear Headphones Review

British company Bowers & Wilkins make excellent loudspeakers and home theater systems for audiophiles. I've got a set of entry level B&W speakers at home and I like them very much. So when Bowers and Wilkins released their C5 in-ear headphones earlier this month, I immediately placed an order.
Pros:
  • Warm, lush sound
  • Lots of bass, Very good build quality for the price, Secure Loop and Micro Porous Filter features aren't a gimmick – they really work, Handsome zippered carrying case
  • Sort of like a small chicken empanada made of black leather
Cons:
  • Inline mic and controls only work well for iOS
  • Android and other devices, not so much, High end and upper midrange freqs not very pronounced, though also not as fatiguing, Cable a little bit sensitive to body movement – you'll hear it in your ears when it rubs against your clothes

"B&W has taken their world-class, pro-tier studio speakers and shrunk them into two little ear buds. Like you're listening to a full room of sound rather than just headphones.
