With how lucrative and attention growing the true wireless earbuds segment has quickly become, it was only a matter of time before Bose became involved. In recent decades, the brand has been a dominant force the speaker and headphones space.

Good sound; Reliable connectivity; minimal dropouts

High price-tag; Iffy form-factor

Bose SoundSport Free review: The best is yet to come

With how lucrative and attention growing the true wireless earbuds segment has quickly become, it was only a matter of time before Bose became involved. In recent decades, the brand has been a dominant force the speaker and headphones space. Why wouldn’t they want to bring their storied reputation to the next big thing in wireless audio?

As a first effort in the true wireless category, the Bose SoundSport Free are an impressive effort. Unfortunately, they're also one dragged down by an slightly iffy form-factor and high pricetag.

Good sound; Reliable connectivity, minimal dropouts;

High price-tag; Iffy form-factor;

Bose SoundSport Free

Bose's first truly wireless earbuds don't quite hit the mark, even if there's a lot to like.

Secure fit; Good sound quality; Robust build; Decent battery life

Chunky design; Difficult-to-use buttons; Large charging case

Bose SoundSport Free: Cut the wire with these earphones

UPDATE: Since writing my review, I've noticed a few people have reported the left-bud to mysteriously stop working after a short period of time. I didn't experience any problems during my extensive testing, though your mileage may vary.

Good sound quality; Find My Buds feature

Bulky design leads to wind noise; Buttons are hard to press; Expensive

New Bose SoundSport Free Wireless Headphones Black review

The Bose SoundSport Free wireless headphones really do the job of combining excellent practicalities, fine sound quality and very solid connectivity into one package for those prepared to pay a premium price.

Comfortable and secure fit; excellent sound; fine bass; recharge from case

Case could be a touch smaller and use USB Type-C for charging

Overall, the Bose SoundSport Free are decent earphones. They sound a lot better than Apple's AirPods, battery life is pretty good and connectivity is solid. They're also very friendly to use, and it's easy to switch between devices. All very positive things.

Truly wireless headphones (earbuds that aren't connected by any wire) are rapidly gaining popularity and nearly every audio manufacturer is beginning to release their own versions of them.

Built well; Very good bass response; Good battery life; IPX4 sweat proof

Expensive; Sound leaks; Buttons are stiff
