It’s been a bit of a rough start for the PS4 when it comes to AAA retail exclusives. Both inFamous: Second Son and The Order: 1886 were disappointing to one degree or another and that has left Bloodborne as the great red hope of the console’s initial exclusive retail line-up.

The countless defeats and time spent butting heads with a single boss (in my case, upward of two hours) can be dispiriting. Even when things seem to be at their most difficult, though, the unpredictable sights waiting beyond your current hurdle prove to be an enticing enough reward.

You wake up to find a strange man staring at you, only to get eaten by strange zombie-like creatures just seconds later in what looks like the end of your story before it even began.
