With a better camera and CPU, the DTEK50 could have been a mid-range best-buy. Instead, it's going to mostly appeal to the business segment, who favors security and productivity features. Regular users will look past it and to alternatives that offer improved everyday features for the same price.

NOT FACTORY UNLOCKED!!
I order this phone with the hope that it would be factory unlocked, however, it was even worse than that. The phone has a faulty sim reader! it would not read any sim at all. This is a lousy job by whoever "refurbished" this phone.

BlackBerry DTEK50 hands-on review
On first impressions, the BlackBerry DTEK50 is unassuming, unexciting and decidedly middle of the road.

BlackBerry DTEK50 review
When the rumors BlackBerry was going to release a mid-range Android device started to appear, I wasn't really sure what to expect as an end result. As it turns out, the DTEK50 is a nice looking device that is pretty much up for anything you throw at it and while it doesn't include all the latest and...

- Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 out of the box
- Great virtual keyboard
- Mostly stock Android experience
- Continual and fast security updates

- only white
- No OIS on the camera
- Bigger battery would have been appreciated

BlackBerry DTEK50 review: Pushing the security narrative
It's usually not a coincidence when a company goes back to its roots, which is hardly a surprise in BlackBerry's case. Even amidst its current malaise, BlackBerry's image is still centered around security, and so, its latest smartphone pushes that narrative.

BlackBerry's inability to find the perfect device for the "budget smartphone" segment has been touted as one of the reasons for the brand's decline in recent years. Ironically, the Canadian brand had its high noon when it released the 8520 in 2009 at a price that was considered staggeringly low in a...

BlackBerry DTEK50 Review
BlackBerry is still in the game and it's using Android to get them back on its feet. If the Priv is way too much for you to enjoy a BlackBerry phone, then the DTEK50 we have here wants to address that concern.
Pros:
- Sturdy build
- Good display
- Great overall performance
- An affordable BlackBerry device
Cons:
- A bit light for our liking
- Additional BlackBerry features are not skin deep
- Lacks a fingerprint scanner
- Average battery life

Why did I decide to buy the BlackBerry DTEK50? I already had a perfectly functioning phone and there were cheaper Android phones out there. I guess my curiosity was piqued when I read about the security features and wanted to see what the fuss was about.
