Amidst the two important milestones known as the BlackBerry PlayBook and Torch for Research in Motion (RIM), it's easy to forget the device that gave the company the breakthrough into the mainstream market – the BlackBerry Bold 9000 . Back in 2008, we had nothing but praises for the first Bold.
Pros:
- Preloaded with intuitive BlackBerry 6 OS
- New 5-megapixel camera
Cons:
- Processor speed remains at 624MHz
- Sensitive optical trackpad

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Review
This is the BlackBerry Bold 9780. When you think of the "classic BlackBerry" this is what comes (or should) to mind. Besides the new operating system, BlackBerry 6 and a Webkit browser (thank goodness), 5 megapixel camera, more RAM, the same 2.44-inch screen at 480x360 pixels, 2GB of microSD card...

Business as usual
The BlackBerry Bold 9780 is a pretty solid RIM device. Just like the Bold 9700 before it, the 9780 gives you excellent build quality, smooth performance and the corporate grade email and data security. If this is the kind of phone you are looking for, you might as well stop reading right here.

BlackBerry Bold 9780 Review
When the Bold 9700 was launched in October 2009, little did RIM (Research In Motion), or anyone else for that matter, know, how much the smartphone market would change in the space of a year.
Pros:
- Blackberry OS6 interface is a lot more fun to use
- Excellent battery life
- A decent camera adds more value
- Comfortable QWERTY keypad
- Display works well even in bright sunlight
Cons:
- Existing Blackberry Bold 9700 users may not be enticed to upgrade
- APP World still falls short in app variety when compared to Apple and Android platforms
- Blackberry data tariff plans are an additional monthly expense

Review: BlackBerry Bold 9780
RIM gave BlackBerry aficionados a treat when the BlackBerry 9800 Torch was released on our local shores a couple of months back. Heck, even our very own Reviews Editor Vic fell madly in love with the Torch .
Pros:
- Ever dependable
- ever reliable
- Best hardware QWERTY keys in the market
- Battery life
Cons:
- Outdated hardware
- Would be better if it had a touch screen

BlackBerry Bold 9780
BlackBerry still seems to be finding its way in this ever consumer-centric, touchscreen-dominated smartphone world, with its latest touchscreen option, the Torch , getting a mediocre response and the company recently slipping out of the top five smartphone manufacturers worldwide.
Pros:
- Great qwerty keyboard
- Sharp
- colourful screen
- Excellent call quality and battery life
- Class leading messaging interface
- Web browser much improved
Cons:
- Small screen
- Feels like it needs a touchscreen
- Keyboard still favours small fingers
- App store is limited

A complete waste of money. Feel only paid for a 'name'. My little cheap phone did nearly as much, & I could send photos free, not have to pay £5 a month for the pleasure! There was no mention on the Box that this was an obligatory tariff payment! Be sure this is my last Blackberry purchase!

BlackBerry Bold 9780 review
Near the end of last year, we kept our fingers crossed in the hopes of spotting the third iteration of the BlackBerry Bold series, the BlackBerry Bold 9780. Fortunately, the unit came into retail availability within December, barely making 2010.

RIM's latest BlackBerry Bold offers an upgrade rather than a revolution. The BlackBerry Bold 9780 looks identical to its predecessor, but features more memory and the new BlackBerry 6 OS. A refreshed home screen, various software enhancements and a better Web browser are improvements.
Pros:
- BlackBerry 6 OS
- More RAM than predecessor
- Best-in-class keyboard and e-mail
Cons:
- Browser much improved but still inferior to iPhone/Android
- BlackBerry 6 OS better suited to touchscreen navigation
- Less apps than competitors
