Beats EP review: Good sound trapped by wired limitations
As an act of full transparency, I’ve been struggling with how to write about the Beats EP headphones for some time. They are wired headphones and deserve to be treated as such. Yet at the same time, they come with a price tag that puts them closely alongside budget wireless headphones, most of which come with features and capabilities that just aren’t possible with the Beats EP. Perhaps that’s the best way to write about the $130 Beats EP. They’re not the audio juggernauts that higher-end wired options oftentimes are, and they’re not the features-first wireless cans that seemingly surround them. They’re somewhere in between, awkwardly in the middle of two distinct parts of the genre. Truthfully, I could wrap up this section of the review in two words: Not much. Other than the headphones themselves, the contents of the Beats packaging include a foldable carrying pouch, a quick start guide, and a warranty card. - Reasonable comfort
- Good noise reduction
- Durability questions

Beats EP
Beats is known for two things: bass-heavy sounds and lofty price tags, and while it might not always make the most well-rounded headphones, it certainly makes some of the most popular.- Affordable price tag
- Solid sound for the price
- Cool
- comfortable design
- Headphone arms don't fold down
- No wireless option
- Excessively long cable
Apple Beats EP review
The Beats for you- Price
- Minimal design
- Not as bass heavy as other Beats products
- Playback controls work nicely (on iOS
- Still clearly skewed towards emphasizing the low end
- Build quality is questionable
- 3.5mm cable is not removable
- Can not skip between tracks on Android
- No folding hinges or swiveling ear cups
- Uncomfortable headband
Beats EP
Beats makes plenty of headphones with sky-high prices, but its entry-level EP headphone is a surprisingly good value. The list price is $100, £90 and AU$140, but you can find it online in the US and UK for about a third off -- closer to $70 and £60.The EP is an on-ear model that isn't as swanky as...- Reinforced with stainless steel, the affordable Beats Ep is sturdily built and sounds good for the money
- It's relatively comfortable for an on-ear model and includes an inline microphone for calls
- Doesn't fold up or fold flat
- on-ear design has its downsides (clamps down on your ears)
Five Stars
Nice quality headphone case, they are very sturdy and fit my Sennheiser HD 4.30.
Got Exactly What I Expected
I needed headphones that would work for my active lifestyle; earbuds kept falling out of my ears. These are perfect for my activities and the sound is superb!
