Bayonetta 2 review

Bayonetta 2 lives up to its reputation and the Nintendo pedigree. Its sexually suggestive violence is fun and light-hearted, and surprisingly fits perfectly amongst the Wii U line-up with vibrant flair, and an experience not offered by Nintendo's own library.

+ Deep combat; + Eye-catching colours; + A Nintendo exclusive that's unlike Nintendo games; + Bayonetta is a great character

- Plays it very similar to the original; - Repeatability will be a problem for some

Bayonetta 2 review

Bayonetta 2 has been surrounded by controversy from the start – first over its Wii U exclusivity, then over its sexual content. But is the game itself any good? James Burnett has the answer.

Smooth, well-balanced, and satisfying combat; Dazzling sound, visuals, and scale; Quite amusing

The story is very silly

Bayonetta 2 is a game that logically shouldn't exist. The original was the result of a collaboration between Platinum Games and Sega, directed by Devil May Cry director Hideki Kamiya. Sales of the game were great for Platinum, but not good enough to get other publishers on board for a sequel.

Bayonetta 2 review

The rhythm of combat remains the same, though it's hard to complain when it's riffing off such a heady beat, where chimed enemy attacks are lithely dodged into slo-mo pugilism, where impossible combos culminate with a 20-foot boot weaved from hair crashing from the heavens and where spinning amidst...

Bayonetta 2 Review

By all sensible and logical business reasoning, Bayonetta 2 shouldn't exist. The first didn't sell anything worth a damn, despite it (insert ‘probably' here for the opinion-as-fact-Nazis) having the best combat system of any third person action game made and being absolutely bashit mental in many of...

Bayonetta 2 starts off in much the same way its original forerunner did; You are dumped in the middle of a chaotic frenzy that instantly brings you as up to speed as you can be in its delightful disorder.

Great Combat System | Visuals that pushed the WIi U | Soundtrack | Value for money

Online feels slapped together

Bayonetta 2 Review

Every aspect of feels polished and focused. At times, the writing feels ridiculous, but I still love how it plays. The superb pacing and combat are just that good. By the end I was convinced: This sequel builds on everything that made the original great, and delivers one of the most satisfying...

Excellent combat; Cool unlocks; Great pacing; Art design; Enemy variety

It's been a long time coming, the agonizing wait for a sequel to one of 2010's best games, Bayonetta. Stuck in a publishing limbo, it seemed like no one was going to experience the follow up to one of Platinum Games' best efforts, and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm glad Nintendo decided to...

Bayonetta 2

Bayonetta 2 is a smart, confident sequel that knows exactly what it wants to be. It takes a long hard look at the original game, keeping everything sacred intact while deftly cleaving off any and all excess. Every chapter bursts with spectacle and every boss fight thrills.
