We have an older model flat screen tv with only one hdmi port which as you can imagine was causing problems. It is also wall mounted and the port is at the back so you couldn't plug anything in quickly to view photos. This gadget fixes the one plug problem and the front input makes it simple to temporarily project content from a laptop or camera.
