Xbox One Review: Assassin's Creed: Unity

Assassin's Creed: Unity had so much potential, but fails to deliver under the weight of its flaws. Bugs and framerate issues really hold back a good game from being great, and that's the case here. Hopefully it'll get better over time via patches, but at the moment it's far from perfect.

Assassin's Creed Unity (Xbox One) Review

Since Ubisoft started to annualise the Assassin's Creed franchise, there have been a series of highs and lows. Last year's Black Flag was arguably the most enjoyable entry in the series yet, although it was also by far the least ‘traditional' Assassin's Creed game in the series.

[No real storyline spoilers, just a few lines of quoted text from the game and mostly near the beginning] This has to be the absolute worst assassins creed game to date. It makes assassins creed 3 look like a great game in comparison.

Assassin's Creed Unity Review

Assassin's Creed Unity is at once comfortingly familiar, yet drastically different. For all its recognizable tropes, and for all its throwbacks to Assassin's Creeds of old, Unity is surprisingly progressive.

Stunning recreation of revolutionary Paris; Huge crowd scenes add to the atmosphere; Arno is a charming lead; Sandbox-style stealth missions let you plan your own assassinations; Simplified customisation makes it easier to pick skills

Focused story doesn't make the most of its gorgeous backdrop; Arno and Elise's relationship isn't convincing; Free-form parkour system doesn't always work as intended; Lacks the grand scale and spectacle of Assassin's Creed

Assassin's Creed Unity

Ubisoft has released Assassin's Creed Unity for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The new release has one of the largest cities in the history of the entire series with the beautiful renderings of Paris that features actual playable interiors within the massive buildings of the world.

Ubisoft's new title is full of ambition: bringing rewards and consequences.

Before reading I would like to first apologize to earlier readers for my fluctuating score this is my first review and nailing down a specific score is rather difficult for me. Also I would like to note that I have a pretty large amount of bias toward this game franchise it is one of the only games...

Assassin's Creed Unity review

Beautiful visuals, a likeable Assassin, and fully customisable skills and equipment: you'll spend months on your virtual trip to the French Revolution. Mind your head.

Paris is a staggeringly beautiful AC playground; Side quests are not only in abundance but detailed; Countless customisation options mean your Assassin is truly unique

Unsteady enemy AI can make stealth sections clumsy; Some stayed; old school AC mechanics make an unwelcome return

Assassin's Creed Unity Review

I'm walking along a Parisian street, crowds of hundreds surrounding me as I push my way through, then as I reach the end of the road the awe-inspiring Notre Dame de Paris engulfs the skyline in what

Visually Stunning; Assassination Missions; Co-op if played correctly

Lots of minor issues, Mediocre story, You will get called a Pillock; A lot

As annualized sequels go, the Assassin's Creed series has done a good job of keeping each installment fresh, thanks to a revolving door of new time periods, characters and historical hijinks.

Assassin's Creed Unity review

As the seventh major instalment in the series, though, not to mention the first designed for new console hardware, Assassin's Creed Unity feels like a missed opportunity. Going back to basics at this point may have resulted in a less substantial game than recent years have led us to expect, but it...
