Before I get into the review proper I want to get the DRM fiasco out the way first. I've decided to give the game five stars despite the fact that the DRM Ubisoft has implemented makes playing the game incredibly difficult and frustrating.

This turned out to be a very good game, much better than the original (more motivation, less repetition), with a fantastic setting. The usual warning about DLC applies, but I didn't have any issues personally.
Ubisoft makes great games, but if they stick to this "must have internet" type of DRM this will be the last game from them that I buy.
Graphics: The graphics in this game a truly remarkable; I have an nVidia 8800GTS 640MB and this game makes the most of it; Games ported from console usually have poor performance on PC, but not this one; It is fast and beautiful.
DRM: If you don't have an internet connection you can pretty much hang up playing the game; The DRM used here is draconian; Despite legitimately owning the game, I downloaded a offline server emulator so I could play while offline (I'm in the military and our personal internet connections are...
Assassin's Creed II, like its predecessor, is an ambitious third-person action adventure game with a clever conceit: You're a modern-day bartender reliving your assassin ancestors' adventures. But where the first game fell short-in repetitive, sometimes-monotonous gameplay-the sequel soars.
Tons of things to collect; gigantic, lovingly crafted cities to explore
Ubisoft's infamous DRM--while not quite as awful as feared--is still a pain in the neck
I know that invasive DRM may be a sign of the apocalypse and that it has eaten many of your children. That said, I am checking discussion of Assassin Creed's II extremely draconian DRM at the door of this review.
If you can get past the DRM you're in for a treat.
I had never played the original Assassin's Creed, despite my friends' recommendations. Assassin's Creed 2 was recently recommended to me as well, mostly for its violent nature. For 19.99, there was nothing to lose, so I bought it.
Coming into its Own
In 2007, Ubisoft released the first of the Assassin's Creed franchise. With its cinematic and easy-to-handle free-running gameplay and its immersion in a unique historical fiction, the game won praise from critics and gamers alike. But with repetitive missions and a simplistic fighting style (e.g.
Compelling historical fiction mixed with near future sci-fi; Smooth; good looking and easy-to-control action; Vast sandbox for exploring and playing
Slow points even within the main story line; Unintentionally grotesque character models; Some in-game animation problems
