The rumour mill was flying thick and fast last year with speculation that the new third-generation version of the iPod Touch would include a camera for the first time. However, the model unveiled featured a faster processor but no camera, leaving the Apple faithful feeling somewhat underwhelmed.

Now that smartphones are so often used to handle music and video, few would think of buying a dedicated media player. Yet Apple has stuck steadfastly with its iPod touch, which this month receives a major update.

Apple's iPod Touch has had a radical makeover, with the fourth-generation Touch coming in the wake of the widely praised iPhone 4 and offering some of the same features. It is Apple's best iPod to date and can be considered a triple threat: a gaming console, multimedia player and Internet device.
