Apple Watch Series 4 40mm Aluminium Sport Band

According to Apple, the Series 4 represents "a fundamental redesign and re-engineering of Apple Watch." As a result, watch out for a lot of very cool changes, from the curved corners to the all-new and larger display.

A MUCH bigger display

The Series 4 provides lots to talk about but it's the display that is capturing the most attention. The narrow borders deliver a viewing area that’s over 30 per cent larger! The curved corners match the radius of the case, allowing for images and the touch surface to almost extend to the very edge of the screen.

Bigger display means new interface

Because of the bigger display, the design of the interface has been remodelled with the new Infograph watch face now capable of handling eight complications, allowing you to do more and see more at a glance.

Never skip a beat

The optical heart sensor has always been a feature of the Apple Watch, but in the Series 4 it can now detect if your heart rate falls below a specified threshold for a period of 10 minutes, and activates a low-heart-rate notification as a result.

More than just a processor

The Series 4 is a complete SiP a System in Package. This means the entire system is fabricated onto a single component with some incredible capabilities crammed into that small device.

It sounds better

The Apple Watch Series 4 boasts improvements in virtually every sense, and that includes a speaker that's 50 % louder for enhanced audio quality for things like Siri and the Walkie-Talkie function. Meanwhile, the microphone is now on the other side of the watch to minimise echo when making phone calls.

The Apple Watch Series 4 and Samsung Galaxy Watch faceoff

If you take a look at the smartwatch market, Apple and Samsung are currently the two manufacturers that stand out most from the crowd. And it's exactly these two that have now launched new models, the Watch Series 4 and the Galaxy Watch , respectively, which of course are supposed to be better than...

My first Apple Watch, and it has been sitting on my wrist 16 hours a day since I bought it - a great gadget! Easy to check notifications without having to pick up the phone, and to keep track of training and movement makes the watch a gadget that is both useful and fun!

It's my first APPLE WATCH and I'm very pleased.

It is useful for my motorcycle rides, with GPS guidance. It reminds me of simple but very important things like doing physical activities, resting for 1 minute, walking, etc. The only thing I do not like is that it depends on the iphone to work cool. In the next purchase, I will pick one with SIM.

Apple Watch Series 4

Daniel Neilson reviews a versatile smart watch that happens to be quite capable for outdoor use too – but make sure you bring a charger

very easy to use; clear OS mapping (ViewRanger); beautifully designed; versatile; very customisable

battery life; touchscreen can't be used with gloves; needs an iPhone

Not as good for fitness as a fitbit

In terms of fitness this watch lacks what the Fitbit charge HR 2 can provide, in order to display simple fitness data you need to purchase additional apps to work with the watch. The watch also has to be charged on a daily basis, yet a Fitbit can last 3-4 days.

Apple Watch Series 4 review: the best smartwatch takes a leap forward

Announced alongside the iPhone XS Max at Apple's September event, the Apple Watch Series 4 is the first time the design and size of the Watch has changed since it was first released.

Big; bright screen; Good battery life; Impressive health features; Better fit in thinner body

Running data still behind Garmin; New flush side button is harder to press

Apple Watch Series 4 review

Just as Samsung, Google and the Wear OS gang look like they're catching up to Apple, it goes and streaks ahead. The truth is that the Apple Watch Series 4 is in a different league right now, and balances style, features and specs to make an excellent smartwatch.

Better design; Lifesaving metrics; Top sports features

More expensive; Battery life still short; Siri integration still not great

Apple Watch Series 4: Another great smartwatch from Apple

It's disappointing that the Apple Watch 4's groundbreaking new features won't make an appearance in the UK anytime soon.

Larger screen; Thinner; Excellent performance

Battery life still not great; Expensive; No sleep tracking

The second best electronic device purchase ever!

This beautiful and well-made device is a wonderful piece of art and superb engineering! - I have the black stainless steel case model. It combines a multitude of functions, including monitoring heart-rate, electrocardiograph, multiple exercise functions and calorie-burn, breathing etc.

Apple Watch 4 review

Apple clearly believes smartwatches are here to stay - the Watch 4 utterly proves that. The design alone is a big upgrade, with the screen offering far more visibility, and while the health benefits are only going to help a subset of users, they're welcome and show the direction Apple is heading.

Larger display; Lightweight design; Louder speaker

Still on the pricey side; Battery life needs to be more than two days
