So rough you can't see the diamond

Alpha Protocol has interesting ideas and can at least boast a somewhat unique blend of role-playing-imbued shooting within a modern-day, realistic setting. However, among its numerous flaws are severe restrictions imposed on exploration coupled with a particularly weak level design, which largely...

Alpha Protocol Review (PS3)

It can talk the talk, but can it walk the walk? A game which makes me feel spoilt often fails to make an epic mark on entertainment grounds. Not the sort of spoilt which leaves me demanding more rather than pleading for it, but the kind that makes me realise how I take games for granted.

Complex dialogue interctions work both with and against the player; Has occasional moments of smooth gameplay which makes the game almost sub-par

Incredibly glitchy; Gameplay feels too erratic and broken; Great narrative system tarnished by poor playability

Alpha Protocol

Alpha Protocol is a series of highs mixed in with too many lows – it's a bit like snorting cocaine; sensational until the comedown and the septum wears away. When it's working it's brilliant fun, making you feel like a spy, the rest of the time is an exercise in either manic depression or...

Intriguing and compelling story; When it's working; stealth action is fun; Wealth of locales

The mini-games; The screen tearing; The boss fights

Alpha Protocol Review

(continued from previous page) ...promise; for instance, we enjoyed the finely crafted dialogue, and even liked sneaking around corners and given a guard the old hand-of-death. However, overall Alpha Protocol is so riddled with flaws that when we finally found ourselves interested, we were quickly...

The control players have on how the story plays out; An overall interesting concept; The dialogue system

The wretched cover mechanics; The enormous amount of visual and animation glitches; The poor camera perspectives

Alpha Protocol (PS3)

Close your eyes and imagine the following: Mass Effect flirts with Splinter Cell. After a few drinks, one thing leads to another and the two get down and dirty. A few months later (what is the gestation period for games?

Alpha Protocol

Michael Thorton is pissed off. First he was drugged and recruited into a shadowy organisation known as Alpha Protocol, then he was sold out and now there is an annoying Russian arms dealer who apparently loves 80's rock who is trying to kill him.

Alpha Protocol Review

Alpha Protocol is a commendable attempt at story-driven, role-playing action which sadly doesn't live up to its promise, leaving many of us to wonder at what it could have been with a little more polish.

Alpha Protocol Review

Alpha Protocol is bursting with great ideas, but none of them make it to the surface unscathed. The RPG and character development elements are perfect for the third person shooter audience. Your actions and skill development have an enormous influence on the game's outcome and adds some reply value.

I personally really enjoyed this game. It made me think which I found a little bit frusterating at first but once I got used to the game I flew right through it. I thought it had a great story and every decision you make is a big part of the story.
