Luckily, folks of all skill levels are welcome. Nearly every aircraft in the game's extensive library includes a cockpit view, and experienced jockeys may opt for expert-level controls, but Assault Horizon is hardly a gauge-obsessed flight sim.

Like it or not, Call of Duty is gaming's biggest franchise, so in order to attempt to emulate its phenomenal success developers have long been drawing inspiration from it. Both Homefront and the newest iteration of Medal of Honor owe a lot to Activision's series and are just two examples, but  Call...

This is not truly an Ace Combat game, and fans of the series will probably be disappointed. Everyone else will find this to be an entertaining blend of two genres and should find plenty to like even if they're normally unfamiliar with 'mission-based flight combat' titles.

Superb graphics, fun story-line, responsive flight controls and awesome additions (like helicopter side-gunner missions). Totally glad this game is in my collection, but you've gotta love being in the cockpit else this game won't be for you.

[Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Review - Xbox 360 - 8.0/10] As a somewhat longtime fan of the AC franchise, I found plenty to love in the latest title, Assault Horizon. However, as with many sequels this year, there are a number of changes, and I found them to be hit-or-miss.

Namco have been running the Ace combat series now for 16 years - I know this because I have played every single one of them, all 8 games and I loved all of them. I played the first one actually called Air Combat on the PS1 when I was 15 !

Got this for christmas and played it with zero expectations. I have found it to be great fun, a good game with good graphics, easy controls and a decent storyline. Very good value for the money if you fancy a change of genre!

Since 1992 when everyone smelt like Teen Spirit, this series of epic aerial encounters has gone through minor changes. And mostly for the better, although we're still not sure about Ace Combat 3: Electrosphere and the way it had you flying fighter jets through cyberspace.

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is the best air combat game of this generation. Project Aces nail the art of aerial action, with intense gameplay, sublime presentation and excellent solo and multiplayer modes.
