Nikon's 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 zoom can be bought either as a standalone lens or as the kit lens with a Nikon D90. This lens is not only very versatile, thanks to an almost 6x zoom range, but also affordable.

I got mine as the kit lens with my D7000. All around I am very happy with the quality and sharpness of this lens. It covers a great range picture possibilities.
One of the main attractions of this lens is a useful and versatile focal range that goes from true wide angle to true telephoto.
My wife and I shoot occasional events and this lens makes it easy to pack light. Granted, the 18-105 is not "fast" so we don't always get the best low-light performance (though high ISO on the new Nikons is amazing). We mainly use this lens for outdoor events or indoors with a flash.
Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Fast / accurate auto-focus; Lightweight; Nice Bokeh; Strong Construction
Nice range lens. Has become my do all lens. Great quality pictures.Easy to use. Very well pleased. It has taken the place of my 18-55mm. And a lot the time also my 55-200mm. For the money this is top notch.
Got it with a D90 kit. this is probably one of the most satisfying kit lens in the market. It produce picture quality that isn't visually worse than any other expensive lens. VR works great and saved many of my pics.

Nice bokeh and gives great results across the entire focal range. Hunts a bit in low light situations and I have had poor results on bumping up the ISO on my D5100. However, I completely recommend this lens instead of the standard kit lens (18-50)
Got this with my new D7000 and once tried, surprised me with how fast the AF was and how good the picture actually was. I have twelve Nikon lenses (and have owned Canon systems) and feel for the small difference in the 'kit' price this lens is extremely good for the money. Even at $399.
Top notch picture quality & performance
